To make a long story short, I saved my Z from ending up like the Z that got messed up at that backyard body shop. After 3 months, the shop only painted the roof, A-pillars, and trunk. Reputable shop, does a lot of damn good work, but for some reason, my Z got neglected. I inspected the paint and body work closer, and it was very poor. They took the D.A. and sanded the A-pillars and I could see where they had a rock or something stuck in the pad and it swirled into the A-pillar. They just painted over it. I had all my emblems shaved, front fenders, and trunk, and they primered the front fenders. I could see where they spot welded the holes, then bondo'ed the trunk. They didn't even bother to sand it down, they just sprayed right over the bondo. You could see waves/lines in the paint where they applied it with the putty knife. The front fenders had bulges from bondo where the emblems were shaved, and they were just primered over. I took the car home after sitting at that shop for 3 months and many broken promises, and I didn't pay them a damn dime for this garbage. I am no professional bodyman, but I know my ****. Because I am very busy, I didn't have faith in myself getting it done, but I sat down on a Tuesday, wet sanded the whole car, front to back, and I then fixed the trunk and front fenders. I fitted the front bumper, rear bumper, side skirts, and replaced all the fender liners. I finished sanding and fitting on a Wednesday. I then got it in the shop that Thursday evening and onto the lift and sprayed on the base coat, and then sprayed on the clear coat. I've been putting it back together since yesterday, I am just missing a few of the plastic push pins so I am waiting for them to come in. Tomorrow I'll put the hood on, get it fitting correctly, and hopefully my pins will be in to finish pinning everything back together. So basically, I did more in 4 days than what a bodyshop did in 3 months. Damnit, I am proud of myself and I feel a real sense of accomplishment.
