Gun Owners Thread.
Turning 21 in a few months and really looking into some pistols. I am looking around at a few different guns but I have to say I love shooting a .45. I dont shoot pistol often so ammo cost isnt a huge hassle as when I do shoot pistol I my dads 9mm. I am looking for something smaller for concealed carry. Does anyone have any preferences on 1911's?- Have looked at a few different kimbers as well as a colt defender.
Any help would be appreciated

I have an ATI FX45 Thunderbolt that I conceal carry. Not the most comfortable thing to hide on yourself, and I'll eventually replace it with something more compact yet just as powerful, but I'm not concentrating on pistols right now. If you really only want to spend money and not have anything better than anything else, you can buy the Kimber. You really won't have nothing to show for the money you'll spend other than a fancy 1911. In my experience, I would never carry a 9mm as a concealed weapon unless you really had to. You can get harder hitting rounds like the .40S&W for equal amounts of money, and have the peace of mind that if you hit them, you'll actually deliver a debilitating hit or kill.

Have you actually looked at and compared ballistic performance between a 9mm and a 40 or even a 45 out of a sub 3.5" barrel?
Most people dont conceal carry service sized or full size pistols.

This guy took one to the stomach, and kept coming at the officer like it never hit him. Guaranteed if it were a .45 he wouldn't have.
Sadly, with what this world is coming two, I've had to utilize my carry sidearm on only two occasions, but in those two occasions, I had that confidence and felt that much better because it was a .45ACP and not a 9mm.
On another note, I work for the State of Maryland. We recently switched to the S&W M&P40's, in obviously, .40S&W. When the idea was brought up to switch from our current issue to a 9mm side arm. One reason we didn't, out of the many reasons we didn't, was because once the idea was proposed, nearly every agency allied with us in the state spoke out against the 9mm in favor of the .40S&W, and their primary concern was lack of stopping power. I think that speaks for itself.

9mm is a notoriously weak round. All you have to do is a little informative reading and you can learn that it's negatives usually outweigh the positives. There are plenty of stories, articles, etc., out there detailing how poorly the 9mm performs against a "pissed off bad guy". There are loads out there that up the power, but there is a reason it's losing favor to the .40S&W. You put a 9mm into a sub-3.5 inch barrel and you aren't going to have much of anything. Sure, with a 9mm you can have 12, 15, or more shots, most likely not that many in a compact, but still, you could hit the guy 4 times and with the adrenaline pumping, even with mortal shots, he's still going to keep coming. You hit a combatant with a .45, he's going to feel it. Here's a good example;

Thats a pretty ignorant statement for a LEO to make, pretty crappy blanket statement. I take it you you never seen the video of the guy getting shot in the stomach with a 12g still coming at the officers? It took a 2nd shot to put him down. His guts were literally shot out of him and he was still fighting, pretty sure he was high as a ****, but still. I guess based off of that everyone should carry RPG's...
Most of the 9mm hating articles are before 9mm ammo really was useful from YEARS ago. Go look up 9mm, 40SW and 45ACP ballistics out of a sub 3.5" bbl you will laugh at how they all get equalized. But I dont blame you, if I was an officer and my life depended on this daily, I would want 40 or 45 as well. That wouldnt cause me to downplay a lethal round though.

That pistol is fine for all but the most fanboish of gun owners. I love shooting them.
