Only about a month away. Gonna be fun times, just hope for no 95 fluke heat wave again....that was crazy for a day in April. We should have 3 Supra's ready for the dyno by then. Peter needs to contact them an mention leaving spots for ISP
Just to hit up some points...
This is a car meet - not a camp fire. People want to bring tents. There's no space the meet gets packed and the very real danger of tents flying off and people's hitting cars. (which we need to limit as much as possible) Tent's would have helped last year, but previous years were unnecessary (wasn't that hot out).
For the heat last year - it sucked and that's what everyone is talking about (it was 90's not 105.. that would be a record for early may) - but so far it seems to be an exception, not the rule
. In 2006 it was overcast and about 70, 2007 it was sunny but gorgeous, 2008 it was sunny and warm side of nice.
For air conditioning - unless you have a stripped out race car, you drive around in a personal air-conditioner that is shaded and portable. Also the Comcast Center (the big building) has been open in the past and has ice-cold indoor AC, bathrooms, water fountains etc.
For water - $1 = the normal price that bottled water gets sold for unless you buy in vast quantities. But people needed water last year, so bringing your own actually isn't a bad idea
For food/drink - If you bring it in vast quantities to pass out you're undercutting our sales. Water is the exception because last year it was necessary. But we don't make money on this (like some shop-run meets with food), all food/drink proceeds go to Martha's Table food bank for needy families. If you bring your own food and drink for yourself that's your choice and right, but if you start passing it out to others you're discouraging donations which indirectly takes some luccini out of the hands of a food bank. Repeat: water is the exception. People needed it last year
The lines last year - were contributed to by double the attendance of the year before, with the same man power on our part. Just gotta understand they're college students, not paid event staff. We have a fraternity helping out this year so it should be better/faster
In the end we're doing our best with a meet that started out drawing maybe 500 cars in 2006 and now is up to 5,000 cars in 2009. Without more UMD funding or a different parking lot (Lot 1) the additional crowds are going to make it seem worse even as we learn and get better at organizing the meet.
We just try and do this thing for fun and make sure everyone HAS fun (which is tough as more and more people come and more and more people have differing needs)... and help out Martha's Table charity
So bear with us as much as possible, we talk about these concerns every year and will try and do everything we can to make it go smoothly

I just logged on here for the first time.... and read about a Z-car meet on April 2nd... but there are no other details. Where might I find them? I am in Delaware and would like to participate and spread the news but I have no details and the 2nd is only a few days away!
Could someone email me details? To everyone reading this it is probably all old hat, but it's NEWS to me. I was directed here by a message on ZCAR.COM about a caravan happening in New Jersey in May and while looking for info on that I stumbled across this info. I'd like to get the message out if I knew more about it!
Oh, and I own a 1982 280ZX turbo. I know that this is a 350Z forum but, like I said, I was directed here by a message on ZCAR.COM. A thousand apologies if I am trespassing. You guys have HEARD of 280ZX's, haven't you?

Check the NJ / Northeast regional posts for caravan info from NJ. Most of the important details can be found in the first post of this thread.
can we meet at somewhere on the way for us Delaware to stop by too? I have a few local Z and G that will go and it will be more fun to meet up with the rest of the group. We are coming from 19901 so can anyone please plan the route accordingly?
Well it sounds like we're not meeting at IKEA so where ARE we meeting?
ICE, me and I'm sure a few other guys can meet your RIGHT on rt50 at a park and ride if you want. Then we can just continue on 50 to 495 and meet with everyone else. There's a park and ride in Davidsonville, MD RT424 and RT50 and we can meet there and get right back on RT50 west.
PM me your # if that sounds good.
