Default NoVa living...

I know most of Mid-A is NoVa or Rockville area based and I need your help.
My current job is in Dulles, VA and I live in Baltimore. Let's just say the commute is not pretty. I need to move closer as soon as possible, but I just don't know where exactly to go.
I like the Rockville/Gaithersburg area as well as Bethesda. It's not that I wouldn't mind living in Virginia, but Dulles is 20mins from Maryland (via 495, etc) and I'd rather just stay in MD. But I am open to living in NoVa.
It would most likely start out it in an apartment/condo (1-br, 1 & 1/2-baths, possibly a den), then slowly getting more familiar with the area to go buy a house.
Any advice guys?

If you can deal with the tollroad and paying the toll (usually companies will pay for this) out Rt267.... The toll area would be my recommendtion). The closer to DC the more expensive...naturally. Traffic on 495 and 270 sucks *****...just something to think about...b/c I used to rationalize "Well it's only 40 mins with no trafiic"...but when is there no traffic on 495/270/66/95?

I used to commute from Columbia MD to Reston VA everyday and finally bit the bullet about 3yrs ago and moved to the Ashburn to Leesburg area. Since then..my whole family has moved here and it now takes me 20mins to get to work. If you don't work in DC 267 the toll rd is the way. IT's kind of hit or miss once you hit the Fairfax area during rush hour (like 495,etc) but the Loudoun area of 267 is always open.

Yes...VA is more expensive...but I personally like it much better out here for a couple different reasons.

Also, if you work in Dulles there is South Riding and such off Rt50 which will give you a decent commute as well. I believe Dave S. of F:T is looking for a roomate and it's actually in the Dulles area.

Hey my friend Dave lives in Chantilly which is right next to Dulles... and he's renting out his entire townhouse top floor for $900 and he says garage parking is possible. He can fix your car.. or install a turbo kit too (at a price) ;-) You can shoot him a text/call at 703.889.0763

I work right off of Sterling Rd/28. Tolls, I can deal with, but 495 traffic is hell. I want a decent place for now, under $1,000/mo. And as a personal preference, no roommate(s).

No roommates...under 1K.....prob not gonna happen in this area. Now you bump that to $1200 and you can prob find some pretty quality places with one bedroom for just you.

The toll road is almost never backed up until you get into Fairfax which means relatively no traffic for you.
