Del Mar Va range day?
Just got the call from a buddy, he secured the day off tomorrow (my weekend) and we're heading to Del Mar Va sporting clays so I can put the .308 through some loads (just got her back from a rebarrel).
Anyone feel like joining us?

Fun till that happened. Which was supposed to be my very first shot of the day.
Set it aside and played with the AK's for a while, then packed it in and came home.
Still fairly pissed though.
Holy **** Son! That happen one shot after returning from the smith? I'd be pissed too.
it happened NO shots after returning. round wouldn't fully chamber, but everything was stuck so i couldn't get the bolt back out.
it's the original Remington attachment though; handle is OEM, **** is different.

I'm sure you'll make sure whoever did the work take care of that. Chambering issues after a rebarrel isn't right. Didn't the smith at least spec it and test fire before sending it back to you?

I have SAAMI .308 headspace gauges; soon as I get it all separated today I'll take a gander and see what she gauges out at. I have a feeling this is yet another instance of poor quality control with FGMM....given Sierra's history with MatchKing bullets (I've had boxes with as much as 3 grains either way weight variation and .060 length difference from base to ogive) it's really not surprising.
I think next time the gun shop has some Hornady Superformance in stock (my Factory Match Ammo of choice) I'll be buying several boxes and just setting them aside.
Yes he did, and both myself and others have had FGMM issues in the past with incorrectly-sized brass. The saddest part is, this doesn't really come as a surprise to me.

Match Grade - Suitable for Competitive Matches. Bench Rest Shooting is a popular rifle shooting category. 400/600/1000 yards are the normal distances.
That looks like a Remington 700 rifle which is standard issue for ?Army? snipers.
It is generally chambered (uses) a .308 Winchester Round.
The .308 is very close to the NATO 7.62 which is known from its use in the AK-47.
A rifle bullet has a shoulder that rests into the chamber and that holds the case back from the bullet when the primer ignites the powder.
Armed Ferret thinks the shoulder was too large on the FGMM he fired and the case got lodged into the gun making it so he could not cycle the bolt (the part that broke).

What do you think about reloading? For rifles its not to expensive to get into and it saves MEGA bucks.
I'm planning on getting a few hundred rounds of Lapua .308 for my Blaser Tactical 2 and running it through to chamber match then reloading the Lapua Brass. Word is they'll take 10 reloads each and the wall consistency is great.

I truly hope I'm not coming across as being a nitpicky bastard. Just wanted to make sure everyone's on the same page. But thank you for posting all that anyway; a lot of good info in there for folks who aren't firearm-savvy.

I actually do reload, but I wanted to test the new rig with factory match ammo first. I had an issue with the first barrel that was on it, and even FGMM, Hornady Superformance 178's, and Black Hills Match all shot very poorly. Got a new tube on and was taking it out for the maiden range session. Didn't even get to shoot a round, as the first one was oversized and the bolt got stuck when i tried to chamber it.
Bolt is on its way to Alaska (Accu-Tig) and will be getting a PT&G handle (CNC'd from a billet instead of cast with voids like Remington does from the factory) welded on to replace the broken factory unit.
I'm determined to make this rifle my b!tch.

Thanks again for the post Dave. I've started putting a few bucks away for a Powerlab ST setup, and since I'm only a couple miles away from AAM, I plan on having you guys do the tune.
Technically they use the M24, which is based off the Remington 700, but it's on a long action and isn't a factory rifle. But more or less, the M24 is a Remington 700 with bells and whistles added on.
Actually the .308 IS the 7.62NATO, and it's not used in the AK-47. The AK-47 uses the 7.62x39mm, a smaller round and ballistically nearly identical to the .30-30, a very common lever-gun chambering.
Technically it's the case that has the shoulder, not the bullet. The bullet is just the projectile; a loaded round, or cartridge, consists of a case, with a primer in the back, powder inside, and a projectile or bullet seated in the opening.

"Although not identical, the 7.62×51mm NATO cartridge is similar enough to the commercial .308 Winchester that the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers Institute (SAAMI) considers it safe to fire the NATO round in weapons chambered for the commercial round, but is silent on the opposite usage

I was watching Shooting USA or one of those shows on Outdoor network. The had a 700 that no one could figure out. Shots were all over the place blah blah. Anyways they found the stock was jacked and the barrel wan't floating properly. They did some other upgrades and it shot like a champ. Maybe have your guys check into that?
"The shop whom must not be named in Mid-A" was mentioned TWICE in this thread
That's a record! I predict things will get "off-topic" fairly soon...
On a side note, good luck w/ the single turbo install. Can't wait to see it.
