Our cars are pretty picky about tires. They shouldnt be something you just rush into because a mechanic told you they are almost the same as stock. I personally hated the stock tires. Also if your fronts are "shot" you may need to be concerned with feathering issues etc. Get an alignment. There is a ton of info in the tire section. I suggest you start some reading. Opinions on tires are a dime a dozen.

Also, becareful of mis-matched tires. i.e. rears are a different brand etc than the fronts.

Stock tires are summer high performance. The uniroyal Tiger Paw GZT is an all season tire. Not really "almost the same" IMO.

I DD my Z. I used to run all season tires when I was home in NC. Wasn't bad. Ran Cooper Zeon Sport as well as Falken Ziex-ZE912's. Both are good, inexpensive, all season tires. Here in Hawaii, I run Nitto NT555 Extremes...

and OP, all season tires are NOTHING like ultra high performance summer tires. But I recommend either of the two I mentioned if you're looking for all season. The Coopers are a little better than the Falkens, with regards to performance, but the Falkens will last longer, and come with a treadlife warranty

thanks all for your inputs.
I don't really need to go all season. in fact, i would prefer to stay with high performance tires since it doesnt snow that much here in richmond, va. (i hope it doesn't this year)
Are there any reccomendations for not too expensive tires? I looked up the price for the stock tires and they were lik 250 a piece.
Im just looking for something sticky and reliable. am i asking too much? haha

any help is appreciated.

I used to run General Exclaim UHP's when I was in NC. Was about $135 each. Was pretty decent for a summer tire.

AS always fast reliable cheap.... pick 2.

Im currently running the continental DS on my Volks and the DSWs on my OEMs. I love them. Awesome wet traction. They werent terribly expensive either. The Eagle F1s were great too but a little more pricey and they didnt last too long. I think Tire Rack may be running a rebate on Good years.

I ues to have two sets of wheels and tires. One set for the summer and one for the winter. I don't believe in all seasons on any performance car. The term "all seasons" is the same as saying "happy medium" or that it does nothing well but just gets by. They wont perform as good as a performace tire made for performance or a winter tire made for winter. Having two sets I get the best of both worlds.

But I suppose if your on a budget get the all seasons.

sticky, cheap, but soft side walls. Soft side walls are good for a smoother and quieter ride. Perfect for my old gray haired lady car.

I have run uniroyal before but not on a 350Z. Do not get stuck with a crummy tire with the wrong speed rating.

What size tires are you looking for?

A couple months ago I just got a set of Kumho Ecsta Spt High performance summer tires for about 600 bucks. They are 3times better than the stock Potenzas that came on the car.Smoother quieter ride and better grip in the rain or in dry weather.
