Wanna' PDX, anyone?
Want to learn to drive really fast in a relatively safe environment? Just did my 3rd SCCA PDX at Summit Point main this weekend (second on the main circuit), It is a blast. We spend big money on our cars, why not spend a little to learn to take advantage of the performance? It's a blast and they have a "work 3 get one free" policy. And, as you can see from these videos, any sort of car is welcome. I had everything from a Geo Metro to a Porsche 911 turbo in my group so no excuses.

And this is what you don't want to happen. Don't know if you can see it, but A fairly new Dodge Charger went straight into the wall off turn 1 after loosing his breaks. Don't know how fast he was going but should be around 100 mph. He had new pads but they were jiffy lube specials. A couple bucks in pads cost him a bunch of money- maybe a totaled car and the instructor was taken to the hospital (recovered with a stiff neck).

I was there shooting the s--t on Sunday. Didn't register this time though. I might run Sunday the 24th. The CSR whooped up in TT. Word in the paddock was that the challenger just put new pads in without properly bedding them. I hope the instructor wasn't too injured.....heard he had to be taken to the hospital. Saw the pics...heavy impact to the passenger front.

Worked 1 already, but honestly, for how much it cost... working 3 events isn't worth it unless you're already there with a busted car.
Remember, swap out those pads!!! XP10 up front and XP8 in the back. Don't be cheap.

I plan to run only Sunday since it is $150. I'll probably run carbotechs, but I might even leave the Stoptechs in to see how they do on track. I have two other sets of track pads too.....I need to replace my front brake rings (2 piece) though.....

Saturday you get 4 X 20-30 min sessions on track with an instructor. The instructors are there to keep you safe (first) and teach you if you want to learn. The instructors are assigned based on several criteria such as how much experience the student has, what kind of car they drive, etc. The chief instructor assigns them. If you have a problem with the instructor, you can request a change. The cost for Saturday is about $250 and includes lunch (such as it is). The track is over $3000 to rent (I think that's for the smaller Shenandoah circuit). All you need is a 1995 or newer helmet, long selves and a tech form filled out (which you can do yourself) plus the fee. There is 1 more SCCA event this in year October. This past weekend was the largest turn out they've had in club history. They had everything from Geo Metro to a full blown 300ZX tube chassis GT-spec race car doing the PDX. It's a real blast and you should try it at least once!
The instructor was OK but had a stiff neck. I am sure we know what that's from (a sudden stop from high speed). One of the tech guys heard the owner say he had just had new pad put on at one of the chain stores (like Midas or whatever) and he used their generic pads. Apparently, he did not know the difference and boy did that ignorance cost him. I LOVE MY AP RACING BRAKES!

You're the one got me thinking this way in the first place. Surely you jest. But, you should come out and play, for certain. Get in there in the red group and show those guys "what for" from the Nissan street community.
03350z- I think the rules say snell 2000 but AJ who does the tech told me 1995. I check helmets for the Pdx events and let 1995 or newer go. I can only think of 1 I remember that was that old. I asked about the discrepancy and was told by the steward it was a decision they made that never got to the written rules. To be safe get a 2000 or newer.
^Alright. I have both an M2000 full face and SA2005 open face. I don't see registration for Sunday only on WDC SCCA.....is this going to be two day only for the last weekend?
