Raw ingredients can be used for anything. Only thing Asian we buy at the Asian market is sauces when we run low like soy sauce and such.
If you buy produce and meats theres about a 50-70% savings.
If you buy boxed/canned goods you are right they will be the same if not more.
Whole tenderloins are 5.99lb where giant and Safeway range from $15-22lb
Chicken breast is $1.49-1.99lb Safeway and giant sometimes get in the 2.99 range or do buy one get one free but the bogo tends to be $5-6 a lb
Limes range from 6-10 for 1 dollar vs 2 for a dollar broc is $1lb peppers are .49-99c lb. Safeway is around 2.99lb
Only the fresh stuff will have great prices. cereal, coffee, canned goods will be nothing special, with coupons they could be cheaper at Safeway/giant. Then again I can't remember the last time we bought anything that came in a box ready to eat.

I'm on the "non-$hin Diet" so mostly just grilled fish and veggies. Probably need to start buying fresh vegetables and leave the canned crap alone. Like I said, nothing against the Asian market, but I don't like wasting time walking the aisles searching for stuff and I usually eat the same stuff all the time. I will admit, some of the new stuff in there did look intriguing.
Produce on the right,
Meat/Seafood to the rear
Milk/Yogurt/Eggs to the left
If you are trying to eat healthier then you're set, walk to the right, get your produce, walk to the back wall, get your meats, walk back to the front along the far left wall and get your yogurt/cottage cheese/milk/Eggs then pay and leave.
If you are trying to eat healthy there's ZERO reason for you to visit any aisles, well, I take it back, the pasta/rice aisle so you can get some brown rice/lentils/oats although most are dried so a big bag should keep you going for months.
What is the main items in the middle aisles?
Chips, cereal, crackers, sodas, canned foods, frozen stuff, condiments.
Stock up on brown rice, spices, oil for cooking, canned tomatoes* tooth paste, and asswipe and you'll never have a reason to visit the middle of a store outside of restocking every other month or so.
Not only will you eat much healthier, you will also save a lot of money by not buying crap you don't need.
$8 bucks for all of these at regular price. That's lunch for me and Linh for this work week. $1 a day/person for our main source of protein. Once we add the rest of the meal it puts us in the $1.50-$2.00/person a day range for lunch.
They had milk 1 gallon for $2.99 (whole milk) and $3.49 for 2%-1%-Skim (cheaper then Sams club)
Eggs 3 dozen for $2.99 we blown through eggs like crazy.
*Canned tomatoes are one of the only canned items that are good to buy.

The one in Columbia is pretty western boy safe because its really open and it has half as many people in it VS the NVA ones.
You can't go to a NVA Asian market without having someone playing bumper carts, box you into an aisle, give you the death look, all the normal stuff when dealing with Asians and food.

We usually go to Laurel and Lotte for most of our stuff. Its not terrible but when you fist walk in the produce section can be a sea of yellow fury.
