Dorrian, what class do you want run in? I'd put a 275/40 A6 or V710 on there.

I don't know yet what class I'm going to run in. When setting up my car for next year I want to be able to compete with the BMW group, CDC group, and SCCA regionals. Running in the BMW group with the best tire before R-comps will keep me in the same class as Jon Moon. If I go to R-Comps I go up a class. With the CDC it's all about index so I can have R-Comps there. If I run in SCCA I want to be competitive, but I don't know which class to run in. I think BSP or STR are some of the more common classes for my skill level and car setup. What do you think?

STR is a no go in our cars IMO. We can't compete with the lightweight s2k's and miatas. Hell...the top tier STR miatas outpace me on 285 R888's on some courses. I'd go for BSP. There really isn't much competition (besides me) in BSP. The sti that won this year is moving to STU next year.

The crappy part about BSP is the need to trailor tires (if you go hoosiers/kumhos).....since you can't fit (4) 12" tires in a z. I am putting one of those stupid looking tire trailors for my car next year.....not really looking forward to it though.

Yeah I'm not looking for to that either, but it makes us look cool...lol. What do you think I should do? Stay competitive in the BMW X2 class orrrr move on and do strictly CDC, and SCCA? I want to be able to keep just one set of racing rims and tires. If I get R-comps then I can't do the BMW autoX and compete with the subies in the same class.

.......the thing is though I don't see you competing with Moon and others on street tires. Those cars are just going to get faster as the rules open up (which they are rumored to do a bit). I would step up to X1 if I were you and still use the top STU cars as a bench mark.

You make a good point. That's what sucks about our cars when competing with the subies. We NEED R-comps. Sucks, but it's the truth. I will definitely step up to X1 now. I should win that class as there are no consistent drivers that come race. So next year is going to be fun!! Thing is that I won't compete with moon at the BMW events. I will have to compete at the CDC or SCCA stuff.

Oh and I still haven't fixed my clicking front driver noise yet. I think I may need to change the hub assembly. When I turn right slowly it clicks.... Then I turn left it doesn't click at all. I want to pass tech on sat so I can race. I hope the nissan dealer can diagnose it...or maybe I can just change out the hub assembly.

My car clicks too....i just put some anti-seize on the spl endlinks and the clicking has subsided. No one ever says a word to me at tech......

Might consider Hankook RS3 tires. Not R compound but pretty close.

Thanks Gator I will try those! I have to find some 9 in wide rims first....preferably 17 inches.

RS3's are the hot tire of choice in STR, but the 255 width limit is still a problem. Our cars are just too heavy at that width to be competitive. They would be a significant step up from your current tires though.....

Why is our car not classed very well in STR? 255 is not that wide!!

..........because we are too heavy to compete with 2300lb MX5's on the 255 tire limit. Even the s2000's in STR spec are probably 200-220whp and only 2600lbs.

I know that Mike. My question is why are we in that same class? We are a heavier car. Our HP to weight ratios aren't the same. So what's the deal. Why are we being given the shaft here!!???

I think we are eligible for STX if my memory serves me correct, but I haven't looked into it. I am also not really familiar with the rules for that class. Our hp/w is actually right in line with the others, but when talking about street tire classes weight makes all the difference. The s2000's and miatas are such good momentum cars because of the weight. STU is the next step up, but I don't think you can run in there with a z33. Just to give you an idea of how fast that class is.... the winner at the last scca event was about 3 seconds faster than Moon (also in STU).

Good info! So what would be the best class for us? BSP?

I'd say BSP, but we can only compete on the local level. The Evo's got bumped to ASP, but the solstice gxp, s2000, and sti's are still the cars to beat in BSP. I'd say the solstice will be the new hot platform for the class.

Well local level is better than no level in my book. I'm in then!! so the washington, DC region website for SCCA is where I can find the classing information?
