Default Home Security System recommendation?

Any recommendations on home security system? Pros and cons? I have a detached garage that I also want to link the system to. I know nothing about it. I know there's got to be an expert or two in this topic in Mid-A!

There's forums for DIY home systems. Just google them, sooo much info out there.

Wireless with internet for cellphone warnings.
Wireless without the need for internet for cellphone warnings (these cost more)

hardwired (cost the most)

monitored and non monitored.

Whatever you do, DO NOT go with any of the major brands you see on TV, Brinks, ADT...RUN. If you want a legit monitored setup I can get you the # for the people we use at the restaurant, but be warned, it's a lot of money to do it right + monthly fees.

My guess is you'll end up with something like these systems.

DSC seems to make some good low cost units.

ATD is meh... The window sensors are supposed to detect the pitch of window shattering, but it messes up a ton. Although the new commercials have video surveillance which is cool/creepy.

My recommendation: a gun and that ATD sign for your front yard should accomplish the same effect.

Just the sound of pumping a shotgun to an intruder will be sufficient enough to scare the living **** out of them.

If only Maryland rewrote their laws on home defense giving the law abiding citizen the freedom to use lethal force with no consequences toward an intruder in their home. If that happened, I'd say the best defense is a good offense.

There's nothing wrong with MDs laws on home defense. Maryland issues are outside of the home where you cannot carry unless you're someone special that laws don't apply to.

If someone puts you or your family in danger and you have no other way around it, you can shoot and kill someone while in your home.

that law was revised in 2010... states that if you feel as though your life is in danger you can take whatever actions you feel necessary.

on the other side though if your as big as bigslim and an unarmed 5' 130lb guy was breaking in the house it would be hard to argue that your life felt threatened lol

The law has always been ok for shooting someone in your home if you or your family is under danger.

You just can't go shoot someone because they go on your land.

^^ this and....

....every delivery guy in town is scared $hitless of even approaching my door. Once they see Torque get all wound up they wont even knock on the door they stand in the driveway and wait for me to come out. Most people would move onto the next home if they caught a glimpse of him looking at em like he wanted to bury his red rocket 10" in their a$$hole.
