How long before I should file a dispute?
Alright guys, just want honest opinions here. Long story short, I bought something from a board member, waited a week, didn't get the product or a shipping number. PM'd the person, they said they hadn't shipped it yet and that they would ship the item in two days and give me the shipping number then.
Several more days go by, still no shipping number, product hasn't show up and board member hasn't logged in since the last PM they sent. Yesterday I sent an e-mail to the Paypal address I paid to and haven't recieved a response either.
So it's been two weeks, without a product, and no communication from the member for a week. I'm thinking I should wait a couple more days and see if it arrives, say until Friday, before filing a dispute through Paypal. Or is that just being too nice?

You have a month to file a Paypal dispute so I would wait a little longer. I suggest all online transactions regarding individuals be done with a credit card so you can file a chargeback claim (w/ your credit company) if the product does not arrive. Often times, Paypal cannot refund you the full amount you paid to the guy.

I would say one more week since you posted this hopefully it will get his attention. If it comes to a dispute and he still doesnt come through on the transaction please let all of us know so we can avoid any transactions with this person.

You've given him plenty of time and the benefit of the doubt. File it to be sure you get it worked out in time. Like aforementioned, I believe you can always cancel it.
I agree^, you can always cancel the dispute. I hate the feeling of being flat out lied to. The person has already lied to you twice. FILE A DISPUTE!! He has had ample time to either ship it or email/call you with a good reason why he hasnt. Some people I guess are born with NO integrity.
+1 to both of these. 2 weeks is long enough. People get all butthurt when they think a buyer is too impatient. That's silly. If someone has something for sale and I send them my hard-earned money, they better be ready to ship it. I can understand up to 1 week, after all, life can get hectic sometimes. But if it take longer than a week to get it shipped, then it wasn't ready to sell and shouldn't have been posted as 'for sale' until it was ready. IMHO.

Pretty much the consensus was to wait another week so I did.
The guy responded to my email last Thursday. He said he was out of town for a week for work and that he would ship the product on Friday/Monday.
Well, today is Monday so I emailed him for a shipping number.
I'll give it until Friday before I dispute this...
Thanks for all the insight guys.

^ file a dispute now for using the oldest/lamest excuse in the book. He was not out of town. Even if he was, he can still answer e-mails or answer his phone. Even if he's overseas... it's work related right? Which means his work must be in contact w/ him in some way or another aka he must be in contact w/ a communication device whether that be a phone or a computer. This isn't the 18th century where we send snail mail or use carrier pigeons for updates. It's DISPUTE time!
Time is up...file the dispute.
The fact that he hasn't logged in here for over two weeks also worries me that he intends to scam you.

file dispute now, its tuesday and a reputable seller like myself would have sent you the tracking number, you shouldnt have to request it if you have paid for shipping with tracking.
