Default Apartment Help

So was wondering where all you guys have stayed and what you recommend. I'm looking for a 1 bed room apartment in a good area. My max I really want to pay for a month is like $1500 for just rent.

Reason I'm asking is because I am currently out of the country and when I come back I have no where to live, so need to get this set up prior to coming back.(5 months away)

If you have any suggestions it would be very appreciated.

So far I have looked at: (all quotes are 1 bedroom)
Keswick Park Apartments//Crofton//reviews seem mixed not sure what to make//$1340-$1458 700sqft
Fieldstone Farms//Odenton//seems like a good choice pretty pricey tho//$1475-$1495 750sqft
Governors Green//Bowie//Seems ok//$1315-$1415 713sqft
Camden College Park//CP//also seems ok//$1387-$1446 720sqft
North Forest//Crofton//slightly below what I am looking for but eh//$1,100-$1,250 850sqft
Hampton Hollow//Silver Spring//semi-far//$1169-$1285 659sqft
Lake Arbor Towers//Mitchellville//area?//$1225-$1330 675sqft
Daniel's Run Apt Homes//Adelphi//promising//$1203-$1365 725sqft

1500 a month? might as well rent out a house for yourself.

a nice 1 bedroom apartment should be around 1100 max in my area, and id assume most areas.

Depending on where he's looking he's right. I tried to help a friend search for places and I was shocked at how much rent for a spot in a decent neighborhood in MD has increased since I last rented. Your best bet might actually be to get a roommate and try that route. Last thing you want is to wind up some place sketchy and be worried about your safety or your car all the time.

Move in with Jeffie. The food is good, you've got parking and he can lather you up with lotion while you sleep.

Damn You! I'm on a conference call and just LOL'd really loud reading that sh*t!
But if I had to do it all over again, and I owned the Z, I'd go for the roommate route. He's military, so he must know some cool people around the barracks who'd be willing to share housing. Plus living by yourself is boring sometimes, at least with a roommate you've got someobody to talk to/play video games with/hang out or hit the bars with.

Damn thats some crazy rent for a 1 BR apt. My neighborhood is calm as a **** and there are 2 or 3 BR townhomes with garages going for $1500 or less rent. Most are owned though but I'll keep an eye out.

Thought about that, with me not sure on what I am going to do after my 9 months is done when I get back. Bud I don't want to put myself into a bad situation. If I reenlist and they pcs me Im stuck trying to afford 2 places to live and sell one when Im not there taking a huge hit. But If I go active guard then I can continue to pay on the house and everything is fine. If I get a civ job then I will probably be fine. I guess the bottom line is determining what I am going to do when the time to reenlist come up. I am really looking for an active guard/reserve job in the IT field,so I get a retirement check at 38 and have 20 years experience.

$1500.00 is nothing when it means being able to walk away in 3/6/12 months with ZERO ties. Plus keep in mind $1500 is his top price, chances are he'll be in the $1000-1200 range once he gets a chance to shop around. $1500 gets you one hell of an apartment, I lived at fieldstone farm apartments for 4 or 5 years, it was wonderful. Hell my garage was large enough to store 2 bikes, my 350Z, all my RC stuff, full tool box, a work bench, and still had enough room to do my turbo install in it.

Honestly I wish I stayed at my $1500 one bedroom apartment longer, it would have allowed me to buy more house.

If you want to live in a nice area. it cost. $1500 doesn't buy you a lot of house, even more so when you factor in tax, insurance, and HOAs if it has any. $1500 turns into $2000-2200 rather fast.

If anything, Scott can just go to an extended stay hotel for a week or two while he shops for an apartment or house to rent.

Room mates suck, some people get lucky and get a good one, others don't do so well.

If you do it with a good friend it might break up the friendship, if you do it with a stranger you never know what you're getting into. Sometimes it works, other times... not so much.

Clay, why don't you rent out your family room for him?

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but make sure to Google crime stats in the areas you want once you narrow them down. My old place in Laurel "looked" nice, but once I got there I found out about alot of break-ins, car thefts, assaults, etc....

What do you guys think of this area, I am currently waiting on Ethan to let me know about his room for rent, but also looking at other places in case it doesn't work out with him.

^ crime rate seems pretty good but was wondering if anyone had some first hand exp of the area, since I cant actually go there.
