Is removing the interior street legal?
Lets get to the point.
Abui has posted a comment/picture on Facebook about reducing the weight on the car. And sincerely, it got me thinking for a while...
Is removing the interior of a car street legal?
I am talking about carpet, sound deadening, roof liner, door cards back seats, etc...
For what I could find, as long as you do not leave exposed metal pieces that can cut people, you are alright. But I could not find anything else.
Thanks!

Exactly. But I am sure I have read while researching that you cannot leave exposed metal that can cut somebody.
However, I do not know if that was for the state of MD or other state. And again, I believe I read it on a forum.... so who knows where I got that info from....
Thanks for the answers!

Imagine getting a ticket for, "no interior in car." That would never fly in court even if the officer said, "had exposed metal that can cut passengers." What can "cut" you is subjective. A piece of paper can cut you, OEM plastics can cut you... anything can cut you. With that being said, rice away!
Another thing you may want to consider is to remove any interior/exterior bolts that you technically don't need. I removed about 10-12 lbs worth of just nuts, bolts, fasteners that hold nothing together. For example, your headlight only needs 3 bolts to secure it, you can toss out the other 9. Your radio only needs 3 as well, toss out the remaining 7. Same goes for any other body panel on the inside/outside of a vehicle. 5-6 loose bolts shed off a good 0.5 lbs. If no one sits in the center section in the back seat, remove the center seat belt and bolt - that's about 3 lbs right there.
On a good note, my $h!tbox is scaled in at 2,688 lbs. 88 more lbs to go!

In va dine buggys with seat belt turn signal headlights is street leagal. With its roll cage as the only structure. So as long as you can't kill someone with the meal in your car I would assume its legal. Plus think about all the 240 drivers no backseats gutted trunk single seat.

check this link out for the Maryland peeps:

Appendix A at the bottom lists everything (in the left most column) you need to pass inspection.
Pass inspection = Street legal.

Not sure about US Laws, but in Canada;
You can remove anything you want, EXCEPT for the dashboard (safety thing) and stock seatbelts (you can have a harness and not be wearing the stock seatbelt, but you need to have them installed regardless)
