350 vs. wrx
Don't talk about people posting "garbage" when you post garbage yourself.
The "point" is that someone wanted to know if a Rex will beat a Z or vice versa. The answer was given - it is relevant about the modifications because
a) most Rexs ARE modified so in a street encounter you MAY lose and it won't carry much weight when you yell to the winning driver "Err... but I WOULD have beaten you IF you were stock.. err"
b) point A is true because it is very very cheap to modify Rexs for big gains
Mod for Mod, from what I can see, the Z WILL NOT win because as point b above, it is much cheaper to mod the rex because the Z is N/A. With time better products will come out for the Z but at the moment everything available is expensive and some mods (as per sports compact car) have actually lost HP.

I* love how people come and post garbage about how, this and that car will beat the Z, if it has this and that done too it.
Well yeah, my prelude will beat my stock Z ,if I Modded the HELL out of it..
I could make a Chevy Astrovan beat a Stock Z if I really wanted too. WHATS YOUR POINT.

people are posting valuable comments and true facts, (but there will always be some idiots posting stupid stuff)...
and yes, if u mod the hell out of ur prelude, it will beat the Z...what's so hard to understand??
most people know that wrx's respond really well to mods, for those who dont know..well now you know
i agree that a modified wrx..(not lighty modified) can take out a stock Z from a stop.
from a roll..well i dont know until i race one and find out

I don't know either... I'll have to find out myself in Feb
There will only be 600-800 Zs in Australia in the first year according to one article I read, so I think every Tom Dick and Harry is going to want to try to race me... hopefully I can use my inside knowledge of rexs to beat them...
Oh well if (when?) I get beaten I hope the punk kids arent too cocky (I know I was when I beat more expensive cars
)
I think the Australian Z spec is slightly detuned - 206kw (276HP) which won't help!!!!!

Who cares anyway? It's a practical car with sporting overtones. The Z is a sports car / sports coupe (I don't care about the proper definition, everyone thinks differently on this).
The Z looks better, no doubt. But again, this thread was not about which looks better! Are people so defensive about their car that everytime there is a perceived weakness (????) with it they have to immediately jump to its strengths to make themselves feel better about it?

To take intellectual cognizance of; to apprehend by the mind; to be convinced of by direct intuition; to note; to remark; to discern; to see; to understand.
There is nothing in the definition of perceive which suggests that the perception is backed by fact. That is the context in which it was said - if you noted the question marks, then you SHOULD have understood my meaning. Some people perceive it (are convinced by direct intuition, understand it to be, note that) that the 350z is slow and that this is a weakness. Certain defenders of the honour of the 350z will jump in and rally forth against these dirty perceivers at all cost. Your defence in this case was a moot point (Of no practical importance; irrelevant - NOT An ancient English meeting, especially a representative meeting of the freemen of a shire. ) in the conext of the thread question and the most recent posts.
Anyhoo, this is neither here nor there. Much like your previous two posts.
It just sounded like :

Kid B : 50k
Kid A : What about yours Kid C?
Kid B : I dont know how much he earns but I DO KNOW that my daddy is bigger than his daddy so NYA!

I don't even know how to reply to this jargon rhetoric, by the looks of your syntax, your issues exceed mine Socrates.
I'll speak slower next time.
I've seen a few posts of yours where a WRX is involved. Every second one seems to have some mention of "All well and good... but the WRX is a family sedan"... "Oh yeah? But its a sedan at the end of the day"...
Not your cup of tea? Fine. Others like it. Get off your high horse. Your 2 cents worth is not worth 2 cents in this instance.

It's refreshing to see all these arguments and bashing going on, in most other forums, any type of negative remarks on a thread are most likely deemed "unconstructive" and immediately deleted or something.
When questions like "who will win" are asked, it bascially just becomes an all out fist fight. I think unless you can come up with "specifics", these type of questions should just be kept to a minimum as it produces little to no result and just end up with a lot of people pissed off at each other.
You want to find out if you can beat your neighbor's car? Then come up with a general idea of his mods and his driving ability, and also a list of your mods and your driving ability. This gives everyone a direction to gauge who will win the race (no matter if its from a roll, at a traffic light, on the freeway, or down at the track).
You want to find out generally if you see a car stop next to you at a light, should you rev on him and give him the thumbs up, then let everyone know that you are assuming its stock for stock on both cars with 0 mods and both drivers are capable of driving their vehicle to its top performance range. This way, you won't get anymore of these "if this then that... BUT if that, then you suck!"... and so on.
Otherwise look at this thread, 3 pages and the person who started it still doesn't know who will win what. Stock for stock with similar skilled drivers (relative to their car), I think Z has the advantage. Bottom line it just has more power.

Man, there is some stupid poeple on here (no offence to anyone that knows what they are talking about), especially you cotton woodz. Stock for stock, yeah the Z will win, bud mod for mod, come on, its a turbocharged car, put 500 bucks in it, and its gone!!! Its very easy to play with boost, so mod for mod, the Wrx will own ya.
Well, technically, when you say "mod for mod", the Z will still win. What you really want to say is dollar for dollar. The amount of money you spend investing, it is CHEAPER to get a WRX to go fast. When you say mod for mod, then it is a completely different story. WRX, as a vehicle, is factory modified to add on a turbo to the Impreza. Let's assume Nissan will do what they've always been doing to the Z later on, coming out with a twin turbo version. Then you go from there, mod for mod, Z will still win. Dollar for dollar wise, WRX will be cheaper to modify.
The reality is these two cars are in different classes, so therefore you can't really compare it stock to stock, mod for mod, moded vs stock, OR dollar for dollar. All you can do is line them up and give it all you got. There's really no point arguing who's right and who's wrong.

I have an honest question and would like a civil reply.
My guess would be that a STOCK WRX would beat a Z to about 30-40 MPH (same driver), just because the 4WD hooks up so well and the low end torque of the turbo (I base this on seeing WRXs race other cars, seeing cars like S4s (4WD/turbo) and modded 1.8t (turbo) cars race others as well). I would also guess (based on gearing and times we have seen in all the mags) that by around 60 and the 1/4 the Z has caught up, and beyond that the Z might pull away a bit. Is that an accurate assesment
(btw, guys who don't know how easy it is to mod a turbo car were NEVER around during the mid 90s w/ the TT Z, and havn't done enough research. The POWER gain is SOOOO easy-the WRX is an AWESOME value for someone who wants a quick 4door and doesn't want to pay for an Audi S4 or an older 4 door M3). I would play with one in my Z, BUT I would NEVER bet on the winnner.

It is a driver's race depending on how fast you go up to. to 60 and the 1/4, the suby will hit mid 5's and high 13's.
obviously as many have posted, a few mods and it's a whole different ball game, just like a few mods on a 03 cobra puts it in gt2 category.
I have a modded 02 wrx auto, and it is quite a bit quicker than my friend's 350z, but on the highway I would need a larger turbo. handling is pretty close too with supporting mods.
I also have a 996 C4 Cab and it is pretty analogous - quick accel/short distances the suby is definitely faster, but once on the move, it is no contest (i.e. after 80 mph).
mod for mod is relevant as others have pointed out at many here in the states have waited forever for the wrx and the aftermarket was already in place and you will likely run into a modded wrx than not in my estimation. also, since you can get a wrx for close to 21K, dollar for dollar comparisons should be entitled to at least an exhaust, boost controller (not so much for high boost but ressponsiveness), and something for fuel and/or timing (all for less than $1500.

You shoudl compare costs for costL

Now, modification would hardly be needed for a WRX to pass a 350Z from a stop or a roll. I shoulda waited.
0-60 should be close to mid to high 4's and 1/4 close to 13 flat.
