My Second AutoX results
OK,
I did my second ever AutoX two Sunday's ago (12/29/02) and I've got the results back. I did pretty well for a new driver. The day started off rainy and wet and gradually dried out. The Street tire group did 6 runs in the rain, then the Race Tire Group did 6 runs by which time it was all dried out, so each group got three more runs in the dry. My S2000 friend (who got TTOD for street tires) took the last rainy run in my car and did about 3 seconds better than everyone (which surprised us both, as well as the rest of the group), but that may have been because the track was getting drier each time (it was still totally wet, but the standing water had at least drained away). I got to drive his S2000, and did about a half-second worse than I did in my Z (he usually runs race tires, but this time he was about .5 - 1.0 second faster per lap in his S than I was in my Z - but he's also had about 10 years more experience).
Anyway, here are the Street Tire Results:
S2000.....51.428
Camaro...51.989
300ZX......52.201
350Z........52.331 <----- ME
S2000......52.390
S2000......52.508
300ZX......52.609
Z06..........52.989
GTI...........53.028 (this is that special edition, 6-speed, GTI)
Trans Am..53.551
MR2T........55.447
WRX.........55.495
Race Tire Results:
Vette........48.414
Porsche....49.113 (this is like a '69 911 that the owner has raced for 30 years)
Vette............49.125
Dinan M3......49.396
RX7 (Gen1)...50.575
944...............50.962
RX7 (Gen1)...51.616
Vette............51.846
Dinan M3......52.477 (same as above, but different driver)
VW KG..........52.512 (Karman Ghia)
I had tons of fun, and can't wait to go again. Also, the Z would probably be much more kick-*** with a better driver.

I think I will be getting into autocross this year. When is the next event? is there a calendar online?
I just got back from Sears Point last weekend, and that was incredible. My home made headrest camera mount was kinda bouncy, but I got some good in car footage. My best time was 2:06.140, which I am pretty happy with for my first time at the track.

I've been going to a local company's private events as a guest of an employee.
I haven't tried an SCCA or NASA event, or anything like that.
I'm debating about taking a couple days off work and going to the Speedventures Laguna Seca Event at the end of the month.
The more I think about it, the more I think I will try to take the days off.
I'd like to see your video. Are you planning to encode it and post it as am MPEG somewhere?

I will be converting the whole thing some time soon (next week or so) if I find time, and will post at least some highlights.
We really got a ton of track time with speedventures, it was a great event. I was in the beginner class, and my friend in the intermediate, so we were riding with eachother, which is a great learing experience as well. I would also recommend doing both days, if you can, the second day for me was so much better, after having a night to sleep on what I did the first day. I'd like to do laguna, but I will probably wait for a couple months before I go back.

Hehe,
Ya that dude in the camaro kicks ***. There was some debate about his class because he ran in the race tires group, but my buddy with the S2000 says the camaro is usually just a bit behind his S2000 because the driver is very good. We figured he arrived late and had to run with the race tire group even though he was really on street tires (that's why I put him in the street tires results).
In either case, he made that car move very well across the track. You can see that the Trans Am was quite a bit slower, even though it too had a very good driver (I think both were latest body style, but not sure if they are LT-1 or LS-1 versions - I think they were LS-1, but not positive).
