tiptronic/semiautomatic vs automatic
as far as I know, their mechanicals are identical, one just takes an input from you on what gear youd like. it doesnt nescesarrily do it. often times if your in a gear, and floor the pedal, it will interpret that as you NEEDING more speed perhaps for an emergancy manuever, and it will drop gears to give it to you.
as for shifting faster, the tranny can shift only so fast, as far as Im concerned, for drag racing theres no benifit to shifting it yourself, compared to flooring the pedal where it will shift at redline by itself.
for track racing, you can hold revs for some extent, you might find it shifts around without you asking, and that will cost you precious time from a unneeded shift, and another to go back to the right gear.

Not sure what you are asking. Automatic and tipronic are basically the same thing (they both use a torque converter and will therefore have a little bit of a "mushy" feel), except that when you change the automatic to the tiptronic mode, you can control what gear the car is in.
Some cars (Audi, BMW, Ferrari, and some other high end ones) have a manual transmission with an automatic clutch. These function like the standard automatic transmission, but they use a clutch like the typical manual (but with hydraulic actuation, instead of using your leg) and therefore have a simlar feel to a manual, but without the need for special shifting techniques.
The Z does not have the second type, but rather the first: a standard automatic with gears that you can control.
Your questions is difficult to answer, because it seems like you are comparing the same thing. If you are talking just pure automatic mode VS pure tiptronic mode, then the tiptronic would be more fun (IMO) and would offer more control in curvy situations, but I don't know if would be any faster in a straight line than just "flooring" the accelerator in the standard mode.
