Third AutoX Results
Did my third AutoX last Saturday.
I did OK, but I got some good tips from the other drivers so I'm looking forward to the next time so I can try them out.
There were a couple other 350Z's this time, and I got to ride in a 300TT. I talked a bit with the owner of the 300TT (who got to drive a run in one of the other 350's) and he was very impressed with the newest Z. He said it really handled like it was on rails, and as long as you could prevent the front from going into understeer, he thought you would be able to take corners extremely quickly. Overall, his thoughts were that it felt much better than the 300 in the corners, but not as quickly in the straights (something that has been discussed on this forum quite a bit).
Unfortunately, I got beaten by a 300Z NA (by .004 seconds) and by an S2000 this time around. Most of the other interesting cars were on race tires, so the comparison isn't very good. As usual I had an excellent time.
Here are the times for some of the street tire cars (I always seem to be in third place):
S2000.........46.58
300ZX.........47.002 <----- Sneaky Bastard
350Z...........47.006 <----- ME
300ZXTT......47.799
RX-7............48.378
RX-7............48.679
Lotus 7........48.885
Starion........49.368
Z28 (LT1)....49.463
350Z...........49.591
328i............49.641
928s...........49.759
Z28.............49.775
Plym Satt.....50.183 <----Plymouth Sattelite monster car
350Z............50.829
WRX.............51.491
I'll be going to Laguna Seca this Thursday and Friday, so we'll see if I have any brakes left by the time I get back. That's what I like about the AutoX: speeds are pretty low so it's fairly low wear and low danger and low cost.
