Porsche 911 vs. 350Z
My dad has owned a 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera(correct me if that's incorrect spelling)and woah did it fly. But too bad he wouldn't let me drive it. I was absoloutely amazed with the 0-60, is this 0-60, in your opinion comparable with the 350Z (i'm not sure what i think yet, just want some feedback on other peoples opinions)Thanks
The 350Z is a ~$30K car.
The Carrera is a ~$75K car.
They are in different classes.
I know Nissan has done their best to market the Z (many makers do) into direct comparison with Porsches.
The Line, "Things to do, places to go, Porsches to pass", really struck me as funny. It was plastered all over the dealership walls and in the reading material.
As a Porsche owner, I take it as a compliment.
Sure, a Z might be able to hold it's own with certain Porsche models... hell, you can make a Yugo haul *** if you really wanted to.
But, in the end, a Porsche is still a Porsche and the Z car is still a Nissan.

And to answer your question the 911 carrera is faster than the Z...
I recently sold my 99 Carrera and picked up a track 350z. There really is no comparing the two. I really do like the 350z but it is no where close to a 911. Now once I get a turbo kit on this 350 it will be pretty awesome I think.
you have to be more specific i believe the Z is better than the boxsters but couldnt compare to the Carrera's (The Z can beat a boxster, dont know bout a boxsterS havent raced one of those yet)

To be more specific build quality, driver feed back, sound, quality of materials.... There is a reason you pay 70k+ for them not just their good looks. I am not trying to down the Z hell I bought one. It is a great price/performance car, just to much plastic. As far as a boxter goes you may be able to beat one in a straight line but who cares. Add some corners and you will have yours handed to you. The boxter is one of the best track cars out there. I still wouldn't own a boxter though, to much of a ladies ride.
I didn't say boxters cost 70k I was refering to 911s, and boxters more than out handle Zs. This is all beside the point anyway since if you put an additional 20k into a z it would be faster and out handle a boxter anyway. We should just enjoy our Zs and not worry about every other car that may be faster or nicer or whatever. Who wastes their time worrying about that anyway?
In that same road and track article, the Z had a faster track time than the Porsche (and the M3)... and this was using the BEST time each car could pull. Reading the article basically said that the average man on the street will be able to drive the Z almost as fast as a pro... not the case with the 911 (basically meaning that if you looked at the first 1-3 laps around the track, the Z wins easily).
911's are, historically, very challenging to drive. That has always been part of the appeal.
Pook, is right. Just enjoy your Z and don't worry about what is sitting next to you at the stop light.
I have been a Porsche nut my entire adult life. I bought my 911SC when I was 19.
The only reason I bought a Z is because it was the best new car that I could afford.
... oh yeah, and the Boxster is a "hairdressers" car. Just don't say that too loud to a Boxster driver at the track.
Enjoy your Z for what it is.
Cheers,

The Z can more than hold its on with a Porsche on the track, at least on an Auto-X. I was invited to the Porsche Club auto-x last year right after I got my Z. Most of the drivers there were pretty experienced and most of the cars there were late model 911s and Boxster S's. It was my first time running a race like this and I was within a second of almost all of the 911s and Boxsters out there and this was a 2 mile course. I don't think that is too bad at all, especially considering that I wasn't driving the car to its full potential. Needless to say the Porsche guys were impressed and liked the Z a lot. I got invited the the auto-x again this year, and I can't wait to do it again!

hehe, that was funny, cruel but funny!
Road and Track have a good review of the 350 against the 911, Z06 and M3... pick up a copy.... It ended up ranking second behind the Z06 when price was factored in. Also it had the second fastest lap time after the Z06...

A friend of my says that my new 350z kicks *** over is pricey porsche. I agree with what you said, however, you gotta admit that the Z is a much better value for the money.
