Default Dual BMW run...(kinda long, sorry)

I was on my way home from helping move a friend this weekend, and was coming home the long way just to avoid all the traffic lights.

Well, I go by one of the few lights on this road and see a REAL nice looking black BWM sedan....it was dark so I couldn't really tell what it was, but it had some NICE looking BBS wheels on it.

So, I don't really think too much of it after a while when I see some head lights coming up on me...with the inside set just glowing that outer loop...kind of like...uh...a BMW .
He goes by me and gets stuck behind the car that's probably 3 cars a head in the right lane from me. I get behind him cause it seems that traffic was going to start flowing over in the right lane....once I pulled in behind him...I noticed what looked to be some nice shinny stainless steel after market exhaust...and a nice looking M5 emblem on the back of his deck lid.

Ooooo...I've only seen one of these before, and I have always been curious just how fast they are.
Well, traffic allows for him to slip by and he obviously sees me and nails it. So, even with him getting a pretty good jump on me, I follow suite. He gets probably (guessing) about a 3-4 car lead on me by the time I am able to roll on the gas...but what the heck . From 3rd I lay into it (probably should have been in second...but it was still a little wet from the rain)....and watching him go down the road, I was like "man, he's really moving". About that time, the car starts to pull like it should, and I start reeling him in.....fast. By the time I shifted into 4th I was at his door when I see him hit his brake lights. Crap...I was really wanting this guy to see tail lights...but oh well...the next light is coming up and guess what pretty color it is.....red .
About this time I notice a little set of head lights that is coming up on us fast....not a cop...the lights looked familiar...so I wasn't too worried about it.

So I pull up and the M5 now gets behind me cause this other car is coming up in the lane next to me....no wonder this car looked familiar...it was a Z3 (my ex-wife had one)....M series....

I sit there waiting for the light to change cause I was really wanting to put some cars on the M5 behind me...again the ground was still damp, so I was not going to be able to just lay into it.
Light drops...and I roll on the gas and I'm spinning even with half throttle...and I notice the Z3 has now joined the game. With me spinning through first and second the Z3 is actually keeping up too...lol.
I finally get traction and just completely walk off on the Z3....and though doing MUCH better, the M5 is fading off in the distance too.

I pulled up and info the local Blockbuster (yeah, it was a Blockbuster night), and was hoping the M5 was going to follow me in...would have loved to talk to the guy...but no luck.

Beautiful car...maybe I'll see him again and I check out his car....

Holy smokes I was getting ready to call MAJOR BS on this thread until I saw that you are running an 03 Cobra. If it were a 350Z against a current model M5 (400+ HP V8), no way jose...nice kills!

Where ya located?
If your local, I'm up for a run...

No pulley, and I in a "friendly" race, I would let someone know about that...lol.
only thing I have right now is the CAI. Blew me away, I figured it would breath better with the CAI, but I actually felt the power difference once it was installed...

I'm thinking of putting no a catted X-pipe and cat back next week while I'm on vacation though....hopefully that will put me around the 400 rwhp mark. After that, motor wise, I'm leaving it alone till the warranty runs out.

Those M5's are NICE. I love em. Good runs.

Jester, I will be in the Atlanta(Roswell) area for spring break(9th-16th) if you want to maybe get together and talk cars. I have nothing for your Cobra but Im sure I could find some good friendly runs for you if you would like. Let me know.

If it was a new M5 and he stayed in the throttle in 4th gear, it would take you forever to catch him. They are much faster at speed than in the 1/4 mile and multiple car lengths would take a LONG time to make up. I am not saying you wouldn't eventually pull but it would take some time. He may have made the same mistake you did and not downshifted to 3rd.

Not a problem...it was a street race with "iffy" road conditions at best....really should have just let him go on, to be honest with you.

I would love to have the chance to race him when it was completely dry from a stop and from a roll any time.
They are beautiful cars with serious performance... I have much respect for them.
