When trying to get the fastest time in the ¼ mile when should I shift? Is it ok to go pass redline? Once I pass redline will the computer sense this? –What would the computer do?

In the Z you'll want to go as close to the rev limiter as possible. At 7000 RPM (or thereabouts) the computer will cut the fuel to the engine to prevent over-revving, so you'll want to be sure to shift before then, becasue hitting the limiter really slows you down. I've done it many a time.
