Hi, guys. C & D is so biased. OK, they tested a new RX8, an 03 Cobra, and a 2003 G35 Coupe, 6 speed, performance evrything. OK, the RX8 ran a 14.6 quarter mile, the Cobra ran a 12.8 and the G35 ran a high 13. OK, then they took the cars to the track and the 03 Cobra got 1st place, if you dont beleive me, buy the issue. OK, the g35 came in second and the RX8 was last. The Infiniti got 8 for engine, the Cobra got a 10, and the RX8 got a 7. The RX8 also only has 149 lb/ft torque. They said the RX8 had a bgger interior than both cars. I have a 200 GT running 13.9 stock and i know your 350's are literally the same second for second. I think this is the biggest BS article ever. How could the RX8 have gotten first place? it makes no sense. The G359 your older brother) has alot better design and interior and is faster, and the 03 Cobra is just a beast and somehow the outrun, outhandled RX8 won. I feel a BS flag coming up.

Most of those mags are full of crap and don't know what they are talking about. I saw one of the car mags TV show and they were testing the Mach 1. One of the dumb editors or whatever you want to call them said this car feels so much better the GT since it has IRS. I was like what and idiot. They also said it had a 96 Cobra motor in it. They don't know what they are talking (clueless) about half the time and don't really take time to know the cars they are testing. Just like dealers I always no way more about the car I am buying then the guy trying to sell it to me. I remember the dealer that I bought my Mustang from asked me if I wanted to buy the 340HP Cobra I was like you mean 320 right he was like no man it has 340. So don't get mad just do read that crap anymore.

What a strange comparison, I guess they were comparing sporty 2+2s? Those results are BS, if indeed sporty 2+2s are what they're comparing then you'd think performance would be a major factor in ranking, right? Guess not.

I'll have to read the article before making a judgement. I like the articles, not for the final results, but for all the descriptions included when making the results. That way you can decide which criteria is most important to you and pick your favorite car that way.

I am interested in why they liked the RX-8 over the G35 though (I can understand them liking either of those over the cobra, or vice versa, because the feel of the cars is so different). The only other review of the RX-8 that I read was from "CAR" magazine, where they compared it to the Z. From the article in CAR, it sounded like the 8 was nicer on the inside than the Z, but didn't feel as sporty as the Z (they basically gave both cars "first place" just in different categories). It seems like almost all the mags like the G35 better than the Z (and it does have a fancier interior than the Z), so I'm wondering what they were basing their opinion on.

Thanks for the heads-up on the article. Did it have a photo of a bunch of RX-7's @ Laguna Seca? If so, then those were the R&T guys that some of us at the speedvetures event saw. Anyhow, can't wait to see the article.

CASH DOLLARZ!!! All these mags rely heavily on advertising money, and they are all bought off by car companies! It's that simple.

Agreed. But you know how many people will argue that is not true?

Same sort of thing goes on in the gaming industry, get a mag read a great review. go buy the game and it blows.

Ok. I have to see this article. The G35 ran high 13s in the 1/4 mile???? I don't even know of many Zs that can pull that off. I wonder if the conditions were screwy...

I talked to the editor of a magazine that had recently driven the Rx-8 and I asked him what he tought of it next to a 350z (he was a Z guy by the way) He felt the 350 lacked the Sports car feel that it needed when compared to the Rx-8. In his opinion the Rx-8 dispite lacking power (compared to the Z) would be a far more competetive car. It wouldn't surprise me that the Rx-8 won dispite loosing all the tests simply because it is probably the sportiest of all the cars there. It was also the lightest car there. Track laps mean nothing as that can be very driver bias. I let people run laps in my S2000 and they run slower then they do in their own cars which are often family sedans. Does that mean that a Maxima is a faster autox car then an S2000. Nope, it means that their driving style is more suited towards their own car. I can tell you i'm not very impressed with the driving i've seen from these magazines, So think of it like this. If they come into every corner grind to a complete hault and punch it for every straight away then of course the mustange is going to win. It's the fastest in a straight line. Alot can also have to do with tires. What tires were the cars on. I garantee you if you put Coper Cobras on a Z06 it would get out laped by a Kia on Race rubber (maybe a bit to much, but just catch my drift please). IMHO after seeing how competeive the Rx-7 has been and Knowing mazda's ability to set up really great handling cars I would be willing to say that if the Drivers were talanted and had enough time to maximize each car and the tires were even on all cars the Rx-8 would win around the track hands down (as long as the straight wasn't extremely long). Now you never know maybe mazda blew it on the suspension with this car but I highly doubt it after talking to people who have driven it. Look at mazda's recent cars. Mazdaspeed protege is an glorfied econobox that a 350z owner on this board openly admitted handled better then his 350. The Rx-7 will still on occasion beat a Z06 at autoxs in SS. Infact it's one of the few cars to be left in the same class as the Z06 even the E46 M3 was moved because it can't compete. For some reason mazda makes cars that when driven right will really put in some hot lap times.

I bought a subscription to that mag....the women that came to the door to sell the subscription looked good

You can always tell when they do a shoot out who they liked the best...just look at the cover shot...look at how the cars are placed....RX8 in the front....G35 a little further back....Cobra placed in the back kind of out of the way.

The only thing I could really kind of agree on was the fact that they said the Cobra Interior was kind of cheap feeling...out side of the seats...really, it is kind of cheap feeling for a $35K car IMHO.
And the rear seat space for the Cobra...man, lets face it...unless your a 10 year old little girl, you ain't fitting in the back seat of my car comfortably...especially with me at 6'-2" in the front seat.

Perfectly said. Whatever they say, I do the opposite, except in a few small circumstances.

True, but I would almost rather them do away with the set then to put it in there...save some weight if they got rid of it.

Shoot, the car is porky enough as it is lol

The RX-8 lost all the performance tests...Where is the zoom zoom in the RX-8? I thought it was a sports car?

LOL, That's what I was wondering about. The best I've seen for a G35 was a 14.4. It's still a nice car, maybe I'll pick one up after the Cobra is paid off.
