Default Who'd Win?

I'm going to lay out some different scenarios on different cars versus each other... Voice your opinion on who you think would win.

Assume:

-> The drivers are all of equal ability.
-> None of them are "expert" drivers. (ie. Those driving the manuals are your average Joe Schmoe who likes his sports cars, and even though he's more than familiar with the correct shifting techniques - not all would label him any type of "expert")

Scenario #1

Automatic 2003 350Z vs. Manual 2003 Mustang GT Coupe
Advantages: None - Head to Head.

Scenario #2

Manual 2003 350Z vs. Manual 2003 Mustang GT Coupe
Advantages: None - Head to Head.

Scenario #3

Manual 2003 350Z vs. Manual 2003 Mustang Mach 1
Advantages: None - Head to Head.

Scenario #4

Automatic 2003 350Z vs. Manual 2003 Mustang GT Coupe
Advantages: 350Z has 1 Car Length Start Advantage

Scenario #5

Manual 2003 350Z vs. Manual 2003 Honda S2000
Advantages: None

.. So, what do you think?

LOL!

Few things aren't a waste of bandwidth, my friend. Posted in the wrong forum, maybe - and my apologies for doing so. But a waste of bandwidth?

LOL.... Thanks for the laugh.

I'll concur once the administration of this site who pays the bills (and I doubt that's you) decides that this thread is a waste of bandwidth and either closes this thread, or asks me for cash reimbursement of their bandwidth. Which I'd be more than willing to provide.

Have a Q for you CrazyBosnian and any other big displacement cars that might be reading this thread. Just looking at your mods I was wondering if lowering your TA hurt your 60 foot times at the strip? Most of my experience drag racing is with bikes, but I would think on such a front heavy car like a TA having to stiff of a suspension would hurt your weight transfer launching (getting traction). Is this somewhat true or not really? Just curious.

T/A arent that front heavy, remember the LS1 is all aluminum and fully dressed weighs a little under 500 lbs.

I think scenario #1 with equal drivers would go to the Mustang, and #3 of course would go to the Mach 1. The rest would go to driver. In that the most talented would win meaning the cars are close enough that a slight miss would cause a loss.

One sec, gotta rib you on this one. 346cid isn't big displacement. For the old-school guys I know, it's about the smallest you'll go if you want to go fast. Man, this whole import/sport compact thing has really skewed people's perceptions...

Such a front heavy car? I know it's not the 53:47 of the 350Z, but 56:44 isn't exactly a pig. As for your question, most aftermarket springs (including mine and CB's) use progressive springs, so the initial rates that you're transferring weight on aren't much higher than the stock rates. The thing that really screws up a lowered car's traction is that the lower control arm geometry gets thrown out of whack, but all it takes are some relatively cheap relocation brackets to get everything back to normal. In my case, I only lowered an inch and the brackets actually got my instant center further back than stock, so I should have more traction than I did before I lowered.

Well, I guess I deserved that It is semi true though. 5.7 litre is getting up there. I mean even mustangs are using 4.6 litre engines now. Not a whole lot of cars (not trucks) have a larger displacement from the factory short of some exotics.

Interesting info on the springs and such, thanks. I wasn't aware the weight distro was pretty even on the TA's, more news to me.

Don't know about the 350Z against the Honda. I can tell you exactly how #3 turns out, Mach 1 will take the Z everytime. The rest are pretty much in the hands of the driver and luck.

I'd agree when you're talking displacement in production cars. I'm just used to hearing my some of my gearhead friends talk about 500+ cid in their street rods and muscle cars.

For the sake of exactness, the TA's weight distribution may be a little worse than the Z28's (the 56:44 I quoted) as the TA's front bodywork is a bit heavier.
