Default Played around with a bright blue M3 last night

Was heading to work on Capital of Texas Hwy and this really great looking blue M3 pulls up fast next to me, so we go at it. We were both just playing mostly, at high speed. Most of the time we were in the same lane, but at one point he came up next to me and looked like he was gonna pull past me but we ran up on a car in his lane so I backed off. I never like to keep going even though I think he would have pulled on me and gotten in front in time. I would never want to be the cause of someone getting in an accident, or involving someone else. Was fun, highest I saw was around 140 on the digital speedo at one point. So smooth at that speed, quite impressive. I rarely go over 100, but I had been looking for an excuse to take it up into the triple digits.

Sounds fun, thats what its all about.

BTW, what year M3 was it? If it was the older style(98 and older), you might have been able to take it. Its a much different story with the new ones though.

I've been bad about keeping up with my car knowledge over the past 3 or so years. I used to get about 5 car subscriptions, and read like crazy. Work has had me fall behind. I'm not sure of the year, definitely was newer than '98. It had the chrome piece across the front quarter panels, and was that real bright blue. I think of it as Bugatti blue, but most don't know what that means. He definitely had more power than me.

Yea, I think the color is Pacific blue(correct me if Im wrong). Great color! The chrome "grill" on the fender means in fact that it was a 99+ M3. They are truly works of art in the automobile world.

Yeah, it was gorgeous. M3 and M5, BMW sure knows what they're doing with those two cars...all their cars for that matter.

If you are talking about the bright, almost deep teal blue on the E46 M3, it is called Laguna Seca Blue.

JmanZ. Yeah, I have yet to see that, unfortunately. I need to get my hands on a copy of it. One thing to keep in mind is those are not US spec cars, but I don't know how much that would help the Z...it should traditionally help the M3 (but I think with recent years US spec BMWs aren't lacking a lot of HP like they used to). We got on and off the gas several times, and so perhaps when he was pulling up next to me slowly, he had gotten the jump on me. Who knows, it was real close though either way.

If it was bright blue as he said, I could see it being an E46. The Estoril Blue on the E36 is a deeper color. If you're in a tizzy about the HP difference, remember they were just playing around.

Easiest way to tell is that the E46 has quad exhaust tips. The E46 also has a much more aggressive front fascia with xenon headlights. E46 M3s only come in Coupe form, as well as Convertible. The E36 was produced as a sedan for a few years. There are a lot of other ways to tell them apart, but for you those are the easiest visual cues.

If he didnt notice the quad pipes, it wasnt a E46. You and I both know that you can put those grilles on any car, including Hondas.

Then it MUST have been an E36 because nothing can beat a mighty E46

Jason...I'm suprised you don't OWN a BMW yet...

I saw the guy again on my way to work. It had the quad pipes. It was that color of the M roadster pic. Definitely has Xenon headlights also, I saw his headlights that first night when he was about a mile away, heh.
