Watch out...now Max2000jp is going to come on here and say it was a custom painted M3 with custom quad exhaust and aftermarket Xenons...

No...but know we do know it was a E46 M3. The quad pipes would be the tell tale sign and plus those are what a 350Z would get a good view of.

Ah...plugging for the BMW yet AGAIN. We'll see what happens when I run into some Jamoke crusing around in his E46 BMW M3. Until then speculate all you want. And don't go swinging from Naz's nuts either...yes he owns an M3...but you DON'T...so I don't even want to hear it.

show me where I said "properly driven" in the last post.....I guarantee that I could outdrive 80% of M3 drivers...You can have your opinion...but it's just that until I meet up with an M3 on the street.

I said "properly driven" because why would you claim a kill on a car, when the driver sucked. Is a Escort faster than a McLaren F1 with an old lady at the wheel who cant drive stick? With all things being equal, the M3 is a faster car, end of story.

You might think you can outdrive of 80% of the M3 drivers. Even a SMG wouldnt have much trouble with a Z and a moron can run good times with them.

How am I trolling? I am just clearling up the misinformation that you posted. The Z is a fast car, but the M3 has it beat in acceleration, simple as that.

I adore my 350Z, but if i had the extra money, I wouldn't blink my eyes!!!
In terms of performance on the track, i guess they're very similar. A magazine compared de Z with the Corvette Z06, the M3 and the 911 in terms of value for the $. On the track, the Z beat both the M3 and the 911 but only by decimals of seconds.

How do I close my own thread? This whole thing has gotten pretty stupid. I said the guy could pull on me, not greatly, but he could pull on me.

I was just gonna let you two duke it out, but I have to chime in saying that I think your point is kind of silly. Would you rather racing on TV was just like "Formula 1 racing manager" or something? Where they dyno the cars, put it in the wind tunnel and find the drag coefficient, weigh it, then feed it into a program and tell everyone which car would win in a race? haha. The fact is, BriGuyMax is right, racing, be it on the street or on a track is largely a part of the driver. The M3 and Z are close enough in performance that this is definitely the case when dealing with these two cars. I can out launch 99% of the people I come up against on the road, and having track experience I know I'd be able to take most in the twisties.

I LOVE the M3, and my car, this is not about the M3, I am merely talking about your comments about how racing is not about the driver.

My whole point was about the driver. If you were to put equal drivers into both cars, the M3 would be .5-.7 ahead down a 1/4 mile. I wouldnt say that both cars are nearly equal in straight line acceleration, but thats my opinion.

I have to agree with Max2000jp here. M3 is a faster car than the 350Z. Period.

HOWEVER,

I do believe the 350z and the new M3 belongs in the same class. Both cars are so gorgeous and both are fast. Hence, if you beat a M3 in your 350Z, it qualifies as a kill, even though it might have been your driver skill that got you the win. Driver skills can go only so far. The 2 cars need to be similiar in power for the driver skills to affect the outcome.

Now say if you were in your 1998 Maxima and you raced a 2003 M3 driven by a grandma and you beat it.. THAT IS NOT A KILL.

Why isn't it a kill??? Because the other car "should" be faster?? Come on...that's a really lame way to decide if someone can claim a "kill" or not.

For example...I beat an LS1 Trans Am with my bolt-on 97 maxima out of a stoplight to 100mph because he botched his launch...missed second gear...and then missed third gear...

He was really pissed that I "killed" him by 3-4 carlengths.....and that my friend is a KILL....

Newbie here ... to the forum but not to the car world.

I believe that the thread started with a 350Z playing w/ a E46 M3. It's just for fun. Now it's turned into a M3 vs. 350Z war ... sad.

Rob, good run w/ the M3, glad that you had fun!
