It must be that the spirit never dies
I'll bet this one is a rarity for this group...
I'm feeling cocky as **** because I just washed and waxed the Z. It now has a third coat of Blackfire and the car is looking like it should be on a TV showcase or something. I also just dropped the wife off at work after a quick lunch of PB&J and an even quicker quickie
OK... the situation may not be so rare up to this point but read on.
Now I'm sitting at a red light waiting to turn left at a very large three way intersection. I live in a small town so I have to have fun where I can and this intersection is big enough to get into second by the time the turn is almost complete. I'm in pole position of the two left turning lanes.
The green arow lights up and I'm off. I get almost throught the intersection and grab second. I stick my foot in it far enough to keep the back end out just enough to know its lose. When the road straightens out I plant the foot and wind out second gear while listening to the exhaust note.
Probably still not so rare, but then I look in the RV mirror and this white late model Regal is now just finishing the turn. So.. I think WTF is that. I should be WAY in front of the pack. But, whatever.
I remembered sitting at the light and the Regal had two old people in it. The guy had his hands at the 11 and 1 wheel positions and I could hardly see his wife.
The next light is red so we have to stop. I'm first again and this old guy is right on my ***. When we go again he stays right there, but I'm driving like everybody else now. Since the road is open I take the right lane. This puts the regal and me next to each other at the next light.. which is red as we pull up to it.
I slow down to about 10mph or so when the light turns green and start out in second. The Regal is clearly starting to race so I wind second gear out. It wasn't much of a race if I could stay in front of him from a rolling second gear start but he was sure as **** trying.
So... now there is a lot more road to go and I slow down to the speed limit. I look over at the guy and he must be in his early 70's.
His wife has a total smirk on her face like 'Boys will be boys'.
I sure hope when I am his age I still want to mix it up

I had a similar thing happen to me, but it was with an old woman! (The race, not the quickie!!) It was back in high school when I was still driving my Buick every day. I pulled up to a stop light the one night and this black GTP pulls up next to me and I look over and see this old grey haired lady looking back at me, and then she throws me a rev! I was wondering what the heck was going on, but I threw a rev back her way and waited for the green. The light turns green and she takes off chirping the tires, and she kept up fairly well. We stopped at the next light and I look over and give her a thumbs up and she got a big smile on her face. That was one of the weirdest races I was ever in!
Buford, that situation has potential embarrassment written all over it! Supose you didn't take the lady seriously so you didn't try very hard, and lost!
I can picture it now,... you pull up to the next light and the old broad looks over and says, "you just got OWNED sonny!"
LOL!
