Beat M3 NO JOKE
Ok before i tell this story many of you will not belive me so no need for trying to say i am bs'ing because i am not. I raced a silver 2001+ m3 today in del mar and i pulled on it to about 100mph. We raced from a dead stop. I am sure he was trying hard and was a decent driver because number one he chirped his tires (slam shitfing) and two we ran up to about 100mph in a 50mph zone. So yes it was a race. I have driven the m3 and i know by the book it is a faster car but this is my first experience racing one in the Z and i tell you again. I pulled on it. At 100mph i was about 1/2 carlength ahead. Before racing i was preparing to lose, but instead i pulled up next to him and gave a nice smile!

well then.... you beat a new M3 with a "good driver" who was racing......
yeah, that is hard to believe. If you simply beat him off the line and held him off to 100 mph, THAT is very easy to believe.
I have run with a few 350Zs and pulled every gear. I don't believe that you pulled on him "in gear" unless he was shifting well short of the redline OR, he was on his way home from Home Depot with 20 bags of Quikrete.
I don't know what to say really, either you have the most powerful 350Z ever OR, something in your story doesn't jibe. I bet that he missed a gear or wasn't quite as skilled as you may have thought.
NOTE that I didn't deny that you beat an M3, just that he may not have been as skilled as you seem to have thought.
sorry, but if I posted that I beat a Z06 or even if I pulled a C5 up top, the questions would remain.
Fact: The M3 has a significant hp advantage (and a slight **peak** torque dissadvantage) and the higher the speed, the more mistakes an M3 could make and still come out on top.
Good Kill.

FWIW,
TXSTYLE who posts here often and I both live in Dallas. Well, he is a 972-er
but, we have agreed to a few friendly runs. My good friend w/ C5 (+ all the goodies) can run in front of us and post his findings.
I will let you know what happens. Oh, he has a Borla exhaust and I have an Active Autowerke's exhaust on my E46 M3.

...it'd be great to have a run like that from a dig, roll, and highway speed.
Looking forward to hearing about it.
Nice, well straight line racing depend on the driver even if they had a faster car it's really up to the driver. Off the line if you can get a good launch on them they can you will win but if they get a good launch on you, you'll lose. But on the freeway depend on who downshift 1st. But nice kill, the M3 is not that much faster then the Z. So that fraction of a sec. can be a diffrent between a win or lose.
question for E46 owners, did I read something about BMW decreasing the redline and decreasing the output in a few other ways, after the problem with some engine blows?? A friend of mine, who's engine blew and now has another E46 told me about this and how ALL the mags have versions of the faster and higher redline version, thus the faster times, and he believes that some of the later versions are NOT quit as fast. is this true, and if so, maybe that COULD be a reason some Zs are closer than they should be
btw, this is an HONEST question, as I LOVE the E46 and is NOT meant to be a slam

Honestly?
I think your buddy is not very well informed. If he was, he would tell you that the problem is NOT with the redline. But with the #6 rod bearings getting spun. Meaning that the #6 piston (furthest away from the oil pump) is being "Oil starved" under high loads or high revs. When that happens the bearings get "spun" and the piston litteraly smashes through the engine block after the rod snaps. The Piston then explodes inside the engine block tearing everything apart.
yes, I have pictures but I dont' know how to post them because I am a complete moron. anyone want to give me lessons?????? (or I could email them to one of you guys....)
It is a BMW recognized design flaw. THAT is why they are now replacing the engines without hassle. I have a NEW engine in mine. There is a recall for Nov '01- Feb '02 buld cars but I had an early April '01 build.
Basically they changed the design of the engine internally and I think the oil pump might actually be a bit larger and more powerful. With an inline 6, that last piston is pretty far from the oil pump so they had to make some adjustments now that the engine revs to 8000 rpm.
Anyway, BMW did not "decrease the redline" or output of the engine. After what happened to Ford and Mazda for their false claims.... I doubt that you will see any car company try that crap. There are too many BMW owners who will get the dyno output and then sue. Remember, that is what the Cobra owners did when their cars wern't making the claimed 320 hp.
I also don't believe that the Magazines don't have faster versions. Frankly, the magazines get the SLOWEST TIMES!!!! If you want, I can send you an article about an M3 with a 12.7 1/4 mi time that trapped at 108 mph. It was in Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords and done by Lee Ruder. So, how could he get that time if the mags all have special "mules"? And I would challenge your friend to back that up with fact. I know it has been done in the past but, I have only heard of the domestic car companies trying that crap.
I am planning a trip to the dyno soon but my "butt dyno" feels the same as the old engine. I am planning some runs with guys that I know so I can see if the car is any different.
One of my best friends has an APR Stage 2+ S4 and we are planning a few runs this weekend. I pulled him in my M3 quite a few times on our way back from Austin about 3 months ago..... so we will see............................
TXSTYLE, we will be at Bone Daddy's on 75/ Spring Valley in Richardson at 11:30 on Friday for lunch....... PM me and I will give you my cell phone #.
Sorry for the length.... I am on a conf. call at work and trying not to pass out from boredom................ uugh.
