Maintaining Wheel Diameter, 275/40/17 all around?
Ok autocrossers/track guys, serious question. I am considering the SSR Comp H wheels, 17x8.5 front, 17x9 rear, and according to Tire Rack, in order to correctly maintain the proper wheel diameter, I will need to run either 245/45/17 front, 255/45/17 rear or an aggressive 275/40/17 all four corners, requiring possible fender adjustment. I dont like option #2, and option #1 limits me to Hoosiers only (I want to run other R compound). For those who run the Kumo Ecsta V700 (NOT Victoracer!), what wheel and tire sizes do you run? I was told by Tire Rack if you don't maintain proper diameter, you could have problems with some electronics, like ABS and TC.
Thanks,

Tire Rack is full of ****! 1st, You are using these on the track not the street. 2nd, I run Victorracers in 255/40-17 all around, on a 17x9, Drive on the street to/from track with vdc on and no adverse affects. Drive vdc off at auto-x with no problems either.
I use a +35 offset and 275s will fit the wheelwell with no problem. There is one natl champ in the area that runs 275/40 all around on his stock 17s! (7.5 and 8" wide rims)

Actually, I am going to run my setup on the street. I ran the Ecsta V700 on the street in my last car for a year and a half. My biggest problem was two punctures, which needed to be plugged (I didn't track on those plugged tires) over the course of 18 months. That's why I really don't want to confuse the car's computer when it comes to figuring out the axle speed for the ABS. I like to run the R compound on the street because I drive a sports car and I want the utmost in traction available to me at all times. Rain is not an issue because I simply do the local speed limit when it's raining. Standing water is the biggest issue, but as long as I slow down to the posted limits, I am fine. These last few months aside, 90% of the time it's dry, so after doing the math I figured why not have the added traction of an R compound tire. And not just for cornering ability, but it also helps when you need to make a panic stop too! When it snows, I swap wheels with my stock shod with all seasons.
Not a Z owner but I fit kuhmo 275-40-17 on rear and stock eagle 245-45-17 up front on stock 8" rims. The two dimensions are almost the same. Your computer should have a tolerence for the anti lock and traction control since tires wear differently. As long as all wheels are about the same height, your OK.
