First time at dragstrip
Well, my first time at the drag strip was labor day weekend. I went to Long Island Motorsports strip. Way too fun.
There were a lot of dragster type cars there. A whole lot of Novas, Chevelles etc. Doing their 10s like it's nothing.
Then there was a real race car. Like the ones you see on TV. Sooo cool. I was talking to the people who were working on it (a team of 8-10). They said it was a 6.2xx car. Fukin fast man!! They did one run while I was there. Everyone else stopped what they were doing and watched! He wound up running only the first gear. Didn't run the entire quarter. Ran only the 1/8th and coasted the rest of the way. But guess what. Still ran a 10.4 or so in the 1/4. SICK!!
As for me, I had trouble getting traction. I was on stock track wheels and there was no way to avoid the water box. So every green light I lit up the tires no matter how much I tried not to. I was even considering turning on the VDC...LOL
I was the slowest car there Although a Mustang came by and was doing 14.77 runs off of near perfect launches. Not trying to start a flame war, just stating what I saw. (Mustang 5.0, looked like a mid-90s body)
Then next slowest car was a turbo eclipse. Nice guy. talked to him a while. Car was AWD and boosted 20lb. Had smoke coming out of the exaust. Said it was running very rich. His times were around the 12.8 territory.
There was a turbo rx-7 there but I didn't see his times...
