NA Build: Kacz07's 2006 SS 350z RevUP
#121
^To be specific about the cams/valvetrain compatibility, JWT specifically noted that the seat pressure might be off or that the engine harmonics might be off as well. When I prompted them about finding headers that matched their cams, they actually referred me to SG Motorsport for design measurements, if not production themselves.
As for the tuning, they recommended I use the Osiris tuner program (which allows you to manipulate exhaust cam phasing on equipped vehicles, like a revup) and, IIRC, recommended to either fully retard (guess they never saw Tropic Thunder...) or shut them off. Looks like they give the same advice on the cam card:

I would like to follow up with them for clarification before I make any suggestions to Vince. As the forum knows, he is extremely knowledgeable with the UpRev Osiris program, so without talking specifics to him, it is likely he may have tried this cam tuning.
What I really need to do is get my final intake setup established and then really nail this tune down and spend the necessary time optimizing that setup, instead of flip flopping back and forth. Following up on the 3" MAF tube by GTM today.

Anything other than this would show an entirly different chart.
There recomendation to not use the OE revup exhaust cam phasing other than in the fully retard or disabled position when using there cams
would come from extensive testing.
My guess the reason why JWT do not recomend the Ferrera valve & spring combo for there camshfts would be that the weight & spring pressure that this combo would place on some of there high lift & long duration cams would lead to unsatisfactory wear & durability at high opperating rpm's.
The Option mag tests refered to early in this post shows nearly all the Jap tuning houses use lightweight titanium valves in there mods list.
The Fontana Nissan also use a modified Nismo spec 2 head with titanium valves.

^I was thinking that having the phasers off meant fully retarded, so I guess the two things I was thinking of were one and the same.
I spoke to Ferrea and he explained that the valves are likely the very same weight, possibly a g or so heavier. The process by which they're made makes the metal more uniform and can better dissipate the heat. I think I may have traded some weight, if any, for better heat exchange. I'm likely going to call them back and have a more in depth discussion, as I've provided them my DRF files from the dyno run. I think it will be good to get another opinion on the matter.
Thanks for your input, Nathan. Your conclusions are logical.
Would the spec2 heads jive with a built rev-up motor? Would it work with the exhaust cam phaser? I wonder.

If this is indeed the case then sure they would jive with a built rev-up as the only fundamental performance difference between the 2 motors is the lower intake manifold runner length and the camshaft specs & operation.

the NISMO heads would also raise your compression significantly vs where it is now and would require either race gas all the time, or a new piston set
the spec 2 type is the one that can be used on a revup from what my notes show

^Yeah, I remember reading that it bumps it up to somewhere 13:1 or above. I am not going to run race gas all the time, but might have a race gas tune on the Osiris.
I am inquiring about the header dimensions for the Supersprint long tubes to try and gather some specs. I will post their response here.

Gabe, I saw this thread last night and a few times before. Doesn't seem like he's going to have the time to produce anything anytime soon. Puts them in the same boat with SGs; they're both swamped with work. Hopefully someone frees up some resources and gets me a set.

Well, the 3" MAF is delayed AGAIN. I followed up with a call yesterday and today, but Sam said that the fabrication shop is backed up with some projects and a MAF pipe won't be available yet. I was really hoping I'd be able to get one sooner than this.

I've been reading this build with interest.
BTW just found this purely by accident. are they in production yet?

Still waiting on the MAF!! Will check in again next week. Keep calling everyone!
Thinking about using a red plastic cup with the bottom cut off and i.d. ported to match the Samco hose and airbox. Think that will hold up?
