Current engine bay. RT Tuning engineered oversize MAF tube.
MD mani and spacer have been dropped off, but not installed.
-Looking to heatwrap the intake

yeah nice car man.. i have an 03 with full bolt on and cams( bc264s) stock bottom end.. i slapped a vortech on with the stock 3.33 pulley.. with vince tuning with osiris i made 377whp at only 5800.. im going back to tune with bigger maf hopfully ill get 400+.. ur car will make power so easy with a sc.. it makes power soquick and great high end with the cams..

I have given a lot of consideration to the vortech kit, but I think I'm going to upgrade the suspension and brakes before I do ANYTHING else with the engine. I've put enough money into it for now, but when I go FI, it will be SC. I think Vince told me about your car. Great numbers, man.

Picked up a Samco intake tube. Will trim the MAF pipe before heatwrapping to fit the Samco (it is OEM fit), then I'm going to see if Vince and his crew can port stock airbox to fit. This would create a sealed intake which I think will help reduce a lot of hot air getting sucked into the motor.Might be splitting hairs, but adding a Titek air duct to the Nismo V2 will definitely help the temps, at speed.
I can only imagine what kind of heat the headers are giving off, so hopefully this will help. Wish I had those SGs with the thermal coating.
For anyone with Osiris tuning experience, although this car will be dyno tuned, can you tweak the tune through datalogging during real driving conditions on top of that dyno tune? I am just thinking that the dyno is not completely realistic for driving conditions since there is a ram effect when the car is moving.

My money is on one of the 06 airbox setups making the most power. From what I understand, the Samco piping is larger than OEM and will mate up well with the 3" MAF. Also, the Samco hose has a more gradual induction into the manifold, which I think is a big factor in SG's manifold setup, as well as pipe diameter. Aside from the larger piping, the 06 airbox combats heatsoak and takes in more colder ambient air. I will likely use a Titek CF duct to help with this as well.
I'm definitely going to have a few parts to sell once my build is completed. Anyone interested in Nismo headers, Berk HFCs, Borla TD, possibly Cosworth or MD manifold equipment?

Yeah. I think Vince said it was like 76 or so...their MAF is also located a lot higher up on the intake tube. Vince had speculated, in that Turbo application MAF thread, that the air would have less turbulence higher up away from the filter and bends. I'm not how it would affect tuning and performance, especially on a NA, but we'll also be able to compare this, too.

The Samco intake hose is a nice piece - was a popular combo with our 3 inch MAF when we still offered it.
The MAF location (IMHO) is going to be inconsequential on this setup, but will be neat to see the results nevertheless. If anything, I think you may find slightly higher IAT with the MAF higher up in the pipe due to heat soak, and alot less air movement in that corner of the engine compared to up front once the hood is closed. With the hood open, I doubt it will make any power difference. I "think" because the car uses a flat panel filter in a stock airbox, that the airflow is already quite straight as it passes through the MAF. The conical filters might skew this a bit...never put one on a flow bench, would be neat to try though. I haven't found that the bend of the intake pipe (stock, Samco, and a few others) doesn't really affect things at all, since ultimately the worst turn is the one on the intake manifold itself, coupled with how the air behaves once it's actually in the plenum and being ingested into the heads. The pipe itself is a restriction, as is the filter you choose. In my last tuning session, I picked up nearly 10 whp just by letting the car run right from the throttle body. Unfortunately though, can't run this way on the street, so I went back to running it as it was (3 inch silcione pipe, 3 inch hard pipe, and HKS filter). But again, will be neat to see how this affects your engine. Hopefully you find what you're after

I am really just trying to wrap up the first stage of the intake/manifold to get my car on the road. It's been too long! I want to break this bad boy in. Still have a few tricks up the sleeve, but I think the community will learn a lot from the comparisons. I guess I'm footing the bill, though. I think what the build really needs is a single turbo from Boosted Performance!
