Default rebuilding motor

I am planning on rebuilding my motor which has a bad OC problem. I am new to all this stuff and was wondering what are the main internals that need to be changed to get rid of this OC problem? Im not looking to go FI anytime soon so im looking for a mild rebuild. Nothing too fancy. Just enough to get rid of the OC problem.

I am assuming OC is oil consumption........it really all depends on what your power goals are and so forth.

It would likely be cheaper just to find a used, good condition short or long block in the FS. Even a minor rebuild with aftermarket stuff is going to cost 3-5k+ w/assembly & install. Not too mention the increased downtime. If you have a donor long block you could have it in a day or matter of days. Your talking more than likely weeks with a rebuild.

yea i considered another longblock but i didnt want the chance of having this problem again. The downtime is not an issue. I can make arrangements to have another car for the time being.

that would depend upon what is causing the oil consumption in the first place, and what your budget is

buy an 06 rev up OC motor and harness. Tim@SFR has them for a good price.

The harness you'd have to buy separately, but you could probably find a junker.

You'd have no downtime and prob save a few thousand, plus you could swap out your motor and build or sell your current motor. To be honest, I know someone who'd probably take your current motor. PM me if interested.

Does Nissan even know what is causing the OC issue? They've issued at least two revisions to the replacement motor.

Infiniti told me that it was exhaust that caused the problem which is total bs. My mechanic suspects the pistons and rings are the main problem. Infiniti never actually told me the exact problem and they are denying replacement of the motor.

the car has already been flagged in the system and taking it to any other dealership will yield the same results.

then call Infiniti, or hire a lawyer - an exhaust, or lack thereof, does not cause oil consumption

however, with a 2004 car, I don't know if its still covered under warranty or not

Arbitration is the next step, just waiting for a response by Infiniti's legal counsel. They have not provided me with any proof that the exhaust caused the problem. I asked them repeatedly to show me some proof but they said they didnt have anything. My car is still under the factory powertrain warranty.

^^yeah, I have the same question. The OC problem is only apparent on revup engines.

Are you suggesting he buy a motor that has been removed for OC and he install it and simply deal with the OC? I'm not saying this is a bad idea, just trying to understand your suggestion. I tried to find said "Tim@SFR" but couldn't. Could you direct me? Thanks.
