na is reliable and with nitrous and a good tune will put down some very respectable numbers. im at 4500ft elevation, so at first a turbo was the obvious choice, but i wanted to keep the car reliable even though i will be driving the thing hard. but i do understand, 300hp for the amount spent seems redic, but if you add nitrous, it looks a lot better

I think no one took offense on any comments really since the NA = dumb has been said many many times ![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Hindsight is 20/20 but pockets aren't always grand canyon deep to follow that sight. As for me even before i built the block I always had an SC in mind. I'm just taking the steps one at a time. Though it's more expensive in the long run, it's still enjoyable and eases the pain on the wallet.

Going with built NA + nitrous doesn't really justify the end result in the end, but that's just me. Plus, dyno numbers don't mean much if you can't back it up with actual track results.
If you've spent all this money on building a N/A block, I hope you're investing a little more with the juice and going direct port.

what do you mean when you say track? road course or drag strip or what? the car will see the road course, and will be more reliable than turbo cars. plus, i have a feeling that towards the end of the day, the turbo cars will have so much heat soak that i may be able to compete with them anyway. im not planning on direct port because anything more than a 150 shot and other parts of the car will start to fail. i should be around 400-450hp and 450-500ft lbs of torque. i may go to the drag strip once in a while, but mainly i just like going fast.

^ That depends on the shot rating. If the shot was rated at the wheels, then a 100 shot will yield 100 whp gain. If it was at the crank, then what you posted above will be true.
mgrotel -
Track as in anything motorsport related. If you can't back up your dyno numbers, what good is it? That's mainly what I meant. Specifically, I was thinking drag strip, as nitrous isn't allowed anywhere else or isn't very applicable.
Also, spraying less than a 150 shot (which the stock block can handle with a tune) seems pointless. Plus, with bigger shots, using a wet system will only increase your chances of pooling, inconsistent/uneven content per cylinder, etc.

the 150 shot tuned limit on a stock block is arguable. i tried a 100 shot rich as a pig and pulled timing and i could not get it to work no matter what i tried. melted plugs left and right no matter what precaution i took. one thing ive learned, is that some motors like juice and some dont, mine happened to be the latter. so, because of that, i didnt want to take any chances this time around, fully forged. direct port system is something i will be looking into later on, im focused on getting the motor together first. also will likely be a progressive shot as well. i have most of the nit components so adding a few things will be pretty easy.
with regard to the hp i should be at, thats why i left the range so open, roughly 300 to the wheels na (give or take), then 150 shot should put me to somewhere between 400-450, but should be closer to 450. but more importantly is the torque, and ask anyone that has used nitrous, the instant torque is very very addicting and advantagous as the boosted car is trying to spool up.
300 to the wheels for a roadcourse in a very tight handling car should do pretty well. i have a lot of money in the suspension already. in all honestly, i dont really care that much about the numbers from dynos, i just want to have fun with it and have it put a smile on my face when i embarrass the cocky boosted car next to me with a turbo the size of my fist, or when i keep up with a vette on the road course. i obviously wont be breaking any records, but it should be fun and i dont owe anything on the car or the parts im buying for it.

right now? i would be surprised if 150 to the wheels, lol! it has no compression in #4, so have the opposite of blowby with my spark plug covered in oil, so no combustion in that cylinder. it runs very rough, sounds terrible, and i am borderline embarassed to drive it anymore. i dont want to be too opimistic about numbers but i think 450 is achievable, but again, im not too concerned about the numbers anyway.

You say the 150 shot limit is "arguable" but there are plenty of people who have done it without problems. Hell, I've had nitrous longer than you did and I spray a 100 whp shot untuned. I haven't sprayed in a while, but my 03 with a lot more miles than yours have gone through more bottles without a single hiccup. As it sits, my Z has 126K miles on it with 5 years of abuse on the drag strip and more recently at autox and road courses. It's really too bad you weren't able to figure out how to correct your issue.

thats exactly what im saying though, some vqs like it, some dont, mine didnt. there was a vqde doing a 150 shot untuned and i had more problems with a 100 and pulled timing. its just hit and miss. o well, should be good to go now, forged components, better cooling, better engine mngt, more open exhaust, etc.
sorry coupe for straying offtopic, but damn you for selling that beautiful G! lol

Problem with N?A builds come with people spending money in areas where they shouldn't bother. 1CockyZ and SG proved that headwork, cams and a good manifold are all that are really needed. But dump money into thos forged rods for 300whp, at least it will look good in your signature.
