Default re use of rods?

My friend owns a g35 and says there is a guy who is willing to sell him a short block that contains arp studs high CR pistons and eagle rods. However the reason why he pulled the engine is because of rod knock. None of the rods are "broke" I am assuming one was warped due to overheating maybe?

Question is: are you able to re machine a forged rod for re use ?

could be several other components damaged internally too

if its cheap enough, but it, tear it down, replace what is damaged in entirety. It's really the only way to know for sure where you'll be starting from

Oh definitely. He wants it for the pistons and rods. The guy is sayin 700 for the whole short block. Which is great! But if a rod is damaged can it be re machined or fixed ? Let's say of it was only 1 rod

You would need to ask a machinist, and my guess is the answer is going to be he needs to see it, mic it, magnaflux it, etc. as it will be dependant on extent of the damage. But yes, connecting rods can sometimes be fixed

i bet the bearings went out. buy it, disassemble it, and spec everything out. like someone said, the crank is probably more likely to have damage if a bearing went bad.

When the engine was taken apart it looked like it ran out of oil.

The bottom of the rod on piston 1 was burned up...looked like someone took a torch to it

The bearings in the same rod were tore up felt like it was shaved to make a prison shank..could possible be used like one too

The pistons themselves look like someone through mud on them.
