This is the one I have.

Mocal Sandwich Plate- 20mm thread

This compact, lightweight, high-flow sandwich plate incorporporates a 180o oil thermostat to regulate oil flow to the cooler until the engine is properly warmed up. The sandwich plate is 1-5/16" thick with 1/2" Parallel ports.

We strongly recommend the use of AN Male to BSP Male unions. These unions come by the pair and include the 1/2" Dowty seal. This is the proper fitting to use with any Mocal Sandwich plate.
Use of a NPT fitting is not recommended on Mocal plates. Damage to plate or leaks may occur.

i know what it is. e30 removed the factory oil cooler/warmer as some call it. maybe that is why your oil gets so cool, that warmer isnt there to get it up to temp.

You should have copy pasted this paragraph if you were going to try to prove anything:
An oil sold as 10w-40 is no thicker than 10 weight oil under Winter (10w) conditions, meaning below freezing. The 40 means it is no thinner than 40 weight oil at 212° Fahrenheit. So, the first number tells us the performance of the oil at or below the temperature of freezing water, and the second number tells us the performance at the temperature of boiling water. The chemicals added to the oil to accomplish this are called Viscosity Index Improvers (VIIs).

All this would have proved is that you're wrong.
come again?

Not all oils have a ##W## number.
Oils get thinner with a temperature inscrease.

Oils with special viscosity agents have the ##W## designations. All that means is a 5W30 runs like a 5W when cold and when hot, it runs like a hot 30W, not 30W when hot.

The reason why you buy oil with a low #W number vs the W## portion is because you want an oil that isnt as thin at higher temperatures and you also do not want to run a high weight oil when cold since that could hurt your motor since it would be so thick.

I guarantee you your motor oil thins out as you heat it up.
Run your oil up to 240 degrees f, check your pressure out. Pull your drain plug..........itll flow like water.

This is why I have the oiltemp gauge. I have very high pressure and need to know what the thinnest viscosity I can go is. Looks like it is running cool so I can use thin.

I am still waiting for summer.

I removed mine also to accommodate the Mocal unit so that wouldn't be it

I have 2 adapters one to accommodate the oil pressure and oil temp sensor and the other is the Mocal unit for the oil cooler

Ah yes. I see your point. I had always mis-interpreted the way that was worded. Meaning I never considered that it was behaving like a hot 30w rather than a cold 30w. I'll add myself to the no oil advice list lol.

Now that we have that settled, anyone know what the min/max oil & water temps are?

Plot thickens. I just changed the Castrol EDGE Ti 5-20 with Pennzoil Ultimate 5-20 and immediately temps are up to 140. Ambient is 72 water is at 200.

Can the Castrol be doing that much better at cooling?

I wouldn't think so I'm running castrol Syntec Edge/Titanium 10W40 when I posted my temps reading.

Maybe because you NA and I'm boosted so my turbos heat up the oil for me

Only difference is a few degrees ambient and Pennzoil Ultra.

The new 150psi gauge is in.

The worse thing about running too cool is fuel economy and emissions, I doubt it affects power, because when you beat on it it should be heated up properly. I dont think the numbers posted in your OP were cold enough to cause major mechanical problems.

Where did you get the gauges with the little guy inside holding up the numbers?
