Default Tomei 272 Cams + after market pistons.

Hi there ..

What CR pistons do you guys recommend with Tomei's in&ex 272 Cams ?
I'm between 11.5 and 12.0 ?!

95 pump gas here ..
Engine: VQ35HR
Pistons i'm considering: CP pistons.
Car running with Headers and CAI.

Thank you ..

I'm at 11.0 with Weisco's...no complaints with my Tomei 272's.

I am at the same, 11.0 with my 272s. No complaints. Could go higher, but would need to run something with higher octane.

Can't say... I'd have to see a dyno of both setups to know. I did it because, in general, its a complimentary add on for the rest of the package.

oh ok, thought you would have tested it on the track or dyno.

Yeah... its not really practical to do that type of test. It involves around 20 hours of labor and the expected gains are not massive. So, for those of us who are in the engine... and have the money... its just something you do if you think its worthwhile for your needs. I was in a position where I needed new pistons and had done a lot of other complimentary mods so I spent a little more and added high comp. pistons.

After everything said and done, I'd think twice about it now... I had issues with a light piston slap at cold engine temps. Forged pistons don't act the same as cast pistons when it comes to expanding and contracting with heat. It was likely more of a problem with my machinist (opening up a bore too much) but its not ideal for a DD.
