Default Whazup everyone!...some questions???

Before I start, I just wanna say, NICE JOB on the site...

Okay, I am new to this forum yet I have been around Z's for a while. I previously owned a 1990 N/A 300ZX for almost two years and I recently purchased a 2004 Black Enth. 6spd. 350Z. I currently have 2,400 miles on her and so far, everything seems to be okay. I have had some problems but they were not Nissans fault (hit and run on driver door, and cracked windshield). Anyways, can someone help me on some of these issues:

1) How to set the A/C to NOT turn on when you turn the fan on?

2) Why do my rear brakes squeak when I reverse?

3) A skunky smell comes out of the vents when I first turn the fan on...what is that?

4) I don't know if I have feathering...but the car is really loud on the highway like 70-80mph?

5) Transmission makes a low whirling sound when I am accelerating at high speeds like 70-80mph, when I remove my foot of the gas pedal, it goes away and sometimes doesn't come back??

If you can help me, I would greatly appreciate it!

I think you can push one one of the ***** and the AC light turns off and then you just get the fans. I will have to go out to my car to look.

Nissan wants you to worry about the temperature and not so much the A/C vs heat. Some modes only allow you to use them with the A/C on. It's bothersome at first but you get used to it. So if you click the A/C button to shut it off, you'll notice that the air often changes from recirculated to fresh (or vice-versa). There's nothing you can do about it.

Only in reverse? I dunno. That seems weird.

On other cars I've had, it was usually a dirty air filter. Check yours to see how dirty it is. With your mileage it should still be very clean so this smell might be your brakes or clutch?

It's a sports car. It's loud but my Z is actually much quieter than other cars I've had.

Maybe a belt? I dunno. You sure it's not just the engine or exhaust noise? At those speeds, it's pretty loud.

I know the noise he's talking about, mine has had it since i bought it. I'm convinced its coming from the rear end. Ever since i started racing at the drag strip about once a month its been getting louder and louder. My friend who's a mechanic for jaguar said its the pilot bearing in the rear end going out.

Regarding the brakes.......do a search on "bedding brakes". There have been some good discussions on this.....for a quick and dirty, check out the following link!

I think I get a similar sounding noise too. I was searching on here and Google and thought about posting a thread about it. Anyway, to me, it's a whirling noise that sounds like some wind is making it's way into a vent or something. It only happens when I'm in 3rd/4th/or 5th gear (less than 50 mph) and only in the first 10-15 minutes of driving. It gets a bit louder when I press the gas and goes away after a few seconds. After 10-15 minutes, it goes away for a while and don't hear it for weeks. It has happened to me maybe 2 or 3 times. First time I thought it was really windy outside (with 30+ mph gusts). But it happened again last week and it wasn't windy at all. It doesn't sound like anything is wrong with the car, but more like a this-is-a-loud-sportscar type of noise that goes away when it's warmed up.

Damn it, my bad for resurrecting a really old thread! Really sorry! I just realized this doing a search for my problem.

Well, at least you're searching. You're doing better than most of the people around here.

It could just be the diff. Does it come from the rear?

+1 I'd rather see threads getting resurrected than the 1000th new thread with the same question.

It sounds like it's coming from the front. I'll pay more attention next time it happens. I'm going in for 60k check up next month and I'll ask Nissan to look into it. Thanks!
