Convertible 350Z
There are a lot of rumors that the convertible 350Z is as slow as the Porsche Boxter. I was wondering what the times were for the convertible Z and the hardtop, and does it make a difference.

Good thing about rumors is that they be confirmed or denied with FACTS.
According to the Porsche webpage, the 2005 Boxster has a 5.9 second 0-60 time, with an MSRP of $64,000.
In a Motortrend article a 2005 350Zr posted a 5.8 second 0-60 time, with a $41,000 "price as tested" cost.
Two different animals for two different people. If you ask me...I prefer my Zr.

According to Motor Trend's comparo with the Mustang GT vert, the Z Roadster's 0-60 is 5.8 seconds, 1/4 mile is 14.2 seconds at 98.2 mph.
According to fast-autos.net, the Boxster's 0-60 is 6.0 seconds, 1/4 mile is 14.6 seconds at 96 mph.
According to fast-autos.net, the Boxster S's 0-60 is 5.9 seconds, 1/4 mile is 14.0 at 101 mph.
If you check out the manufacturer's sites for these cars, you'll see far different numbers. I've seen everywhere from 5.2 to 6.2 for the Boxster S, and the same for the Z.
For the price, I'm glad I got the Z.

Gearing on the Roadster is different from the coupe to compensate for the added weight of the Roadster. Slightly (less than 4 tenths) slower 0-60 than the coupe.

As a result of the extra structure, the Roadster weighs about 240 pounds more than the coupe. To prevent the soft-top from being sluggish, its drive ratio has been altered. Think of the Roadster as having slightly more leverage against inertia to get it going from a standstill. In first gear, the Roadster's overall start-up gearing is 13.423 to 1 — that is, 13.423 turns of the engine to one turn of the rear wheels — while the coupe's is 13.074. Should be a pretty even drag race.
