Louisiana New Z Owner
Greetings and Salutations fellow Z Owners.
Well, after spending the past 5 months reading on the forum, and researching the 'Z' I have finally purchased my very own.
I ended up going with the '06 Enthusiast Coupe Model, in Metallic Black with the Carbon Clothe seats. The car came with all the interior options, mats, skid plates, cargo net, and convience package. Now after reading the forum for sometime I know many.....MANY of you have the manual transmission and love it. I too liked the manual transmission, however when you get my age, and have had many manual cars in the past, there comes a time in your life when you get lazy and go to an automatic. So I went with the automatic/with the option to go into manual, just incase some youngin pulls up next to me at the light.
Now I know I am supposed to post pics, and talk stats, however I am to pick up my Z today at 4pm after it has been detailed and given a full tank of gas. I don't have a digital camera, so I'll go to Walmart and buy one right quick and take pics to post.
I do have to say though, in the area that I live in, it has more rednecks and is primarily truck country. The dealership had to locate my Z in a different state and have it delivered. But the nissan dealership here has given me the VIP treatment. They have bent over backwards to get me what I want when I want it and at the price I want.
Now not to make anyone sick or anything, but I got the 'Z' at 1% over invoice so with all the extras, auto trans, tax/title, signing on the bottom line, I got the 'Z' for $28,600.
My first question for you guys is this:
-What type of air intake system should I get and install to give my new 'Z' a little more pep and gas consumption?

Very nice, very nice. Welcome to the club!
I have never heard of someone looking for "more gas consumption"
If you read enough on the forums, and talk to enough people, I just don't think most naturally aspirated mods such as intake, exhaust, high flow cats (to stay emissions-legal) are worth the money. Even though I've spent several grand here and there on wheels and other stuff, I intend to keep my motor pretty much stock so I don't end up throwing money away.
Many people will tell you the JWT Pop Charger is the best intake, and it gives a slightly more aggressive sound than the stock air box. If you install it correctly, it probably won't give you any problems, and it's probably slightly better than stock at delivering high volumes of airflow. However, if you keep reading, you'll find people who have had stalling issues with the pop charger. I have been told this is due to vacuum leak, so you have to be sure it's installed perfectly.
Next, if you keep reading even more threads on the forum, you'll realize that a lot of people seem to get HP/torque gains for a short while with intake/exhaust mods, then those gains go away. The reason for this is the ECU readjusts the air:fuel ratio and kills the extra power you gained.
In other words, if you want gains after installing airflow mods, you need to get the car's ECU "reflashed" or buy a piggyback ECU. ECU modifications, from technosquare for example, cost around $600+ but will let you make gains from airflow mods. Nevertheless, spending $100 on a simple intake like the JWT popcharger can turn into a few grand once you realize you also need exhaust, plenum, high flow cats, and ECU reflash to make gains.
I wouldn't really mess with the engine or airflow until you're fully 100% set on what you want. A lot of people have written on this forum that they regret trying to gain HP from naturally aspirated mods. A turbo kit will give you a better bang for your buck (but will basically void warranty on your engine if you blow it) for example.
Plus, there are other "go-fast" mods out there. You can get the final drive gear off of a 6MT which would help with acceleration, lightweight forged rims, etc.
Hope this helps you

Thanks for the advice Weird 24/7, I'll probably keep it stock for a while.
And yes Jetspank, Black is beautiful. Especially with chrome.

Is it just me or does every Z owner have the problem of people starring at them when you are driving down the road?
A girl driving next to me almost broke her neck looking at my Z and almost rearended the car in front of her that was stopped.
Does anyone else have this problem? Don't get me wrong it's a nice problem, I like driving something that everyone else dreams of having. I to have dreamed of owning my own Z since they came out.

Well I work for Progressive Insurance Company and through them I was able to get into a program they call the VIPP, and get special deals with certain companies.
So with Nissan, they have a deal where you can purchase a brand new vehicle at 1% over invoice. So I went to the local dealership, showed them the program, they said they could honor that deal, asked me what type of car and options, and the rest is history.
I was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab, which I sold and bought the Z. A big difference and I am loving it.
