Default 1st post-- getting a Z in about a year

Hi everyone, after looking over the previous posts I saw what happend to the last kid who said he was 17 and his dad was buying him a car, the fist 2 pages of posts ripped him apart for being a spoiled brat, so I'm not about to do that to my self. Im in college right now studying aviation, Ill have my private pilots liscense this summer and Ill be flying alot, when I came home from school for winter break I had gained weight, and I have been over weight for the last 8 years now. I have always been into cars on ebay, cars.com, whatever i even influenced my dad to buy a car online. Basically what im getting to is that my dad put of the offer that if I got down to 160 lbs and kept it off for a yar, he would get me a 350z. So I took him up on that deal and he thought that his chances of having to pay out on this deal were pretty slim but I have been busting my chops back at school since xmas and I'm down to 175 from 213 at my highest, so I only have 15 lbs to go then 1 year and Ill be cruizin around in it. My 1st car was a 93 mazda 626 manual, at first I loved it cuz it was stick and so fun, then when my dad got a new car, i wanted an auto again because i thought the manual was so much work, finally he got another new car, and i got his old car, now I HATE it cuz its auto i miss being able to control my shifts, gears, starts and coasting. I may sound like a loser but i put a water bottle in the cup holder and pretend its my 6spd manual haha. I feel great after loosing all this weight and I just thought I would join a forum so I can get into the 350z scene. I welcome any comments about being a spoild brat, congratulating me on my weight loss, asking me to take them flying, other people who go to SIU Carbondale, whatever I just wanted to say hello to everyone and start making some friend who share the same interests that I do.

Nate

Hey Nate,

Glad your doing your PPL, is your intent to get a CPL down the road?
Look at it this way....
If you loose a tad more weight, you can then use a Cessna 150 or a Piper Cub, and save some money by not having to rent a 172, or Cherokee for your PPL training

I already fly 152's down here at carbondale, but when I go home I think im going to fly 172's out of aurora airport KARR so i have room for 3 passengers because I want to take my friends and family this summer, But also I really want to fly a piper cub or a 150 those are so tiny and sweet.

Just think, once you become lean and mean, you can get in/get out of the Z more easily...

Remember a 172 isnt a "real" 4 seater

3 pax, and 1/4 tanks, and your at max gross

Sounds like you need to rent a 180/182 for longer cross-country trips over 1.5 hours with more than 1 pax....

What do you get if you don't make it to 160 pounds?

No you dont.

To fly a 180 (tail dragger) all you need is a tail wheel endorcement (7 hours dual training in the US I believe)

The 182 is the same as the 180 except it has a trike landing gear... (a nose gear, and two mains in the back)....

To fly a 182, all you need is a check-out ride.... in other words you take an instructor out with you for a few hops around the patch, and he signs you off on it...

NOTE*** A high performance aeroplane is one that has a VNE (Do not Exceed speed ) of over 250 Knots, and a stall speed (flaps up/aka:"clean configuration") of 80 Knots or more

The 180/182 has a Vne of 210 miles per hour, and a Vso of 40-50 miles per hour depending on the airframe mods (ie: Wing extentions, vortex generators, stall fences)

Continental O-470 235 HP, Carburated, constant speed....
I'll give the official records a check tomorrow morning

(In Canada, it goes by speeds, and not HP.... I'd be surprised if that wasent the same case in the states...)
