Default Automatic vs Manual Tranny

Stock for stock what kind of race would an automatic vs a manual tranny Z be??? I know a manual can always get that jump, but will an automatic catch up to it and how do they do against each other??? thanks

I've seen time slips of AT that are pretty damn quick (13s) and the same with MT. Just depends on the mods..but stock for stock..the MT is a bit quicker. Now for 2006 model...I HAVE no idea. You have to factor in weight and differences of the engine (rev-up vs. non rev-up).

So a 03-05 auto versus 06 manual won't be the same as an 03-05 auto versus 03-05 manual (non-rev up engines)

Dont compare the cars, compare the drivers. These transmissions are very close performance wise, unlike other sports cars (RX-8, for example). It really comes down to how well the person in the 6MT can shift. If they can shift well, it will be a close race. If they cant shift, the 5AT shouldnt have a problem.

Rollin,

Please use the search function! There have been 100 s of threads on this issue, and somehow, it always turns out to be a flame war.

Where in Sudbury are you at? I regularly use the seaplane base at Azillda (NW of the Inco smoke stack)

Hey man how are ya, i've been using the search feature a bit, maybe i'll use it a bit more.. but fresh posts are always nice too!!! Anyways im east of sudbury about 5 minutes, actually in garson. I know where you dock, we use an airstrip in azilda for skydiving. A group from quebec come every other weekend and anyone can dive!!

Another (hopefully not dumb question) lol.. (I pick up my Z tomorrow.. WOO HOO, yet to really try it out.. so bare with me!) in a race using an automatic, would it be quicker to shift it manually or just keep it in Drive and let the car do the work?!!!! Thanx for your replies.. cant wait till tomorrow.. no sleepies for me!!!

Wow the engine is not even broken in and you are racing already. BTW there are plenty of automatic tips in the drag racing forum.

In a drag race stock for stock it will be a drivers race.

Yeah I have to say in that case it really comes down to driver vs. driver.

Well i picked up the car today.. god damn i love this thing. Already have every tom dick and harry looking to race.. did have a lil fun with a mercedes AMG. It wasnt a dead stop race, he came up side of me took off, so i took off and was pretty well right there with him.. maybe 5 seconds or so, there was a kid killed here on the weekend from street racing, so i have to be real careful... Anyways.. great car, everything i expected and more.. cant wait to start moddnig and making it look even more sweet!!!
