well anyways, i'm sorta new to cars, and especially nissan cars..
just a rough estimate, how much do you guys think a 1 year used 350z by ...hmm.. end of this year (when the 2004s come out )would cost? for the base model with nothing on it..
You won't see it go lower then 24k unless it is messed up, IMHO.

26,800 stripped, you won't see it drop that much more, plus you will have a sh!tty selection of used, I would go for the 2003 on discount, if they have any left come 2004, you never know.

ya, I really wouldn't suggest saving a couple of g's and getting the car used. Theres nothing like driving it off the lot knowing that you're the only one (other than salesman) that has driven it.

Hi, Josie!

You mean $1k off of MSRP, don't you? Over the past few months, most have sold for MSRP if ordered and $1k - $5k over MSRP if bought out of the showroom or off the lot. More recently, however, people are getting $500 - $1,500 off of MSRP, probably b/c they are buying them in the in the northern climate areas where there has been snow and the Z's haven't been moving.

Don't know how much the coupe might drop when the vert comes out. Many still like coupes and there won't be that many Z's anyway.

Also, I wouldn't compare Nissan's depreciation rate with Honda's, at least not on this car. Only time will tell how well the Z holds its own. If it starts to develop a cult following - even more than now - then it will stay reasonably high, at least better than the average Nissan.

I doubt the coupe price will come down when the convertible comes out. There are markets for both. And as for Nissan's depreciation being more than Honda's, that may be true in general, but not usually on Z-cars. The Z32 held it's value extremely well. My friend was looking at a '92 z32 in 2000 for $10,000. $10,000 for an 8 year old car which was around $30k brand new is pretty damn good.

Just checked the last model Z32 (1996), and the blue book on that car is still $17,000 - $18,700 turbo, and $14,600 - $16,100 non turbo. The msrp on the turbo was about $33,000 i think, so the non-turbo was probably $26k - $28k or so? So less than 50% depreciation over 7 years, so rounded up, about $2300 a year. I don't see any reason to believe that our Z's won't have a similar depreciation rate, given that it lives up to the Z32 and then some. Even if a 350Z turbo comes from the factory in the next 5 years, I doubt our value will drop very much faster, as the Z32 didn't. So at the end of this year, expect to still probably pay $25,000 for a base Z especially if you buy through a dealer. So just get a new one for $2500 more. $1000 added on to the price of a car adds roughly $20 a month more to your payments over 5 years.

Default rounding

Don't try to round appreciation. The first year is always the worst.

I do agree though that you have to treat models different. Just because Nissan doesn't have the best resale doesn't mean that the Z won't do well. If past history is any sign the Z will hold value.
