Default New to the Z from a C5 Corvette.

Hi,
My name is Nate. I just purchased a brand new Silver '06 Base w/ manual tran. on Saturday. I am stepping out of a nicely modified C5 Corvette that I have owned for the last 5 years and into this 350Z. There is quite a big difference between the cars, but so far I really like the Z. It is a very well balanced car. I will be mostly lurking and using the search function here, but I figured I would go ahead and introduce myself.

Here is a pic of the new ride:

Here are some pics of the vette I just sold.:

Nice Vette, and welcome to the club! Out of curiousity, did you consider a new C6?

Thanks for the welcome. Yes I did consider a C6. I am not crazy about the styling on them though. The C5 is a much more beautiful car in my opinion. Plus I was ready for a change and wanted to create my own machine from the ground up with as little computer assistance (interference) as possible, hence the base model. I think this will be a really fun car and I am really looking forward to driving it. It will obviously not be the torque monster that I am used to but so far I am having fun with the first 300 miles ….

You'll get used to it. Since you have base, you might want to start looking into LSDs
What wheels on the C5, they look nice

Really, I like the styling. I want to test drive one sometime. The "base" Z is the way to go IMO, I did the same thing. I even changed out the interior.

Did the same thing traded my 98 vette for the base z. Have no regrets what so ever.

Welcome and glad to see pics of your new vs. old rides. How does the build quality and ergonomics of the Z compare with the C5?

Funny,

Iam selling my 98 C5 next week and I am going to buy a 04Z. I have turned to the dark side. However, I will not have a big fat and tall spoiler though!

The build quality seems very good on the Nissan and it is comfortable to drive. However, I wish there was some sort of center arm rest that I grew so accustomed to with the vette. They are both very nice cars, but they are really apples and oranges. The Corvette is not only a drag strip warrior but make no mistake also a very capable sports car that can carve an S with the best of them. That said the Nissan seems a little better “balanced” all around as a track car. I will give the nod to the Z on fit and finish. The interior is more solid than the vette and seems like it would hold up better over time. I had no squeaking and rattling in the vette but the car was getting up there in age. I really am enjoying the Z. It is a fun car, but hard to compare.

What's up jedi. I've seen some posts of yours on corvette forum. I got an 06 silverstone GT in March. I'm in line with your thoughts about the comparison. I still have my C5--gonna see if I can make this thing faster Then I'll take it to the local vette meet and break some hearts.

The biggest difference to me it the size. I use the Z as my dd and I got in the vette this weekend and felt like Boss Hog in his big caddy

Both are GREAT cars with a big aftermarket so you can do as your dreams (wallet ) can take you!

Enjoy

jedi and blow

I am trying negotiate for a 2006 Z base model for $26, 900! Is that to high! The sticker price sias 28,800. How low should I try ti ake them! It doesn't have Cruise Control, or Bose or Leather seats. So in all, am I shooting to low. I need to keep my payments in the 45ish range. YES, I have a budget!

Welcome to the Z club!
Try not to listen to the people that tell you what to do with your car. Your vette was very clean and very nice!
