Transmission squeal at 3-5K RPM?? Please help this nB out.
Hi. Before I go on let me preface this by saying I spent a hour or so looking for previous posts about this topic. Maybe my research skills suck but I couldn't find anything.
SO:
I just got an 05 Z AT. I love the car more than anything I've ever owned before. It makes me happy just looking at it.
But there are two things that are bothering me. It's possible that I'm just behaving like a neurotic new parent.. which is what I hope is the case.
Three things about the tranny squeal: When I accelerate something chirps from under the car (windows open, AC off), then from 3-5k there is a constant squeal, it's not very loud but loud enough to hear. And third...Dont kill me. I was driving with my girlfriend and we happened to accidentally knock the shifter into reverse while the car was in motion. I guess I had my hand on the button. Nothing violent happened, no shuddering or dropping trannys. The car simply shut down. Is this a safety feature and did it prevent me from damaging the car?
I'm working a 45 hours a week and need my car. So I dont really have time to bring it in to the dealer. It's still under warranty. If anyone out there has any idea what the chirping and squealing could be, if it's serious and how I can fix it PLEASE let me know. If you're in Miami I can meet up with you and buy you a bottle of your favorite liquor too. I'd be that grateful.
Thanks a lot.

The transmission squeal you are talking about most likely is coming from the intake. I have the similar noise you speak of on my 5AT and searched the site and found that info. As for the car shutting down after throwing in in reverse at speed----thats a safety factor. The chirping a cant help with lol.
So is there anything I can or should do about the intake squeal?
I have a KN in there right now. I guess I was looking under transmission. I'll search under intake squeal.
Thanks alot.
