Are you new at driving?
Have you ever driven a rear wheel drive car before?
Did your dad insure this thing before giving it to you?
Tell me you're going to be driving the ice and snow next month.

Hola Andee
ummmmmmmmm You need to get new tires, I had a front wheel drive car for a while before buying my 1st RWD car, the Z and I fish tailed a bit on wet roads for a while. There's nothing wrong with your car its just that the Potenza's on the car are crappy tires. Look up reviews for tires on the Z and then buy them from discount tire

Then I'd say you were a very inexperienced driver. Go figure...
Go to a Church parking lot and...
Practice...throttle management
Practice...steering
Practice...braking

except she's running federals or something i think...not that those are great, but they aren't the potenzas you suggest replacing!
this poor girl is gonna have a helluva winter if this is her daily driver...!
She Thinks a little slip and slide in the rain is something, wait till she's doing 360's down the interstate in those new york winters...
Those Federal Tires are Way to Hard and Slick, You will die with just a dusting of snow on the ground. Buy a good Set of All-seasons.

Never once in the 6 months of ownership has my Z lost any control (rain, dry, freezing temps, etc). Having prior experience with a RWD car is almost a requirement for some people. I previously had a Camaro and drove it for 6 years in some nasty winter weather with no problems (or snow tires either).
For a person coming directy from a FWD platform, there is a learning curve to get used to how the car handles. You CANNOT drive it the same as a FWD car and expect to keep traction 100% of the time.

andee,
Yes, always leave the TCS on.
From what I've read here over 4 years you are going to HAVE TO get snow tires for driving the Z in winter in snow/ice. Blizzacks (tire) generally get the best reviews here.
For "regular" tires, go to the tire section here & do some reading. And be sure your tires have the right speed rating. I put Toyo T 1 Rs on my Z.

I'm seriously a little disappointed in the board members this time.
Ok so the kid asked a pretty noobish question, and yes to most of it seems like common sense, but I can tell you I had EXACTLY the same thoughts when I first got my Z. I wondered why the well it was so easy to fishtail in this car. I had an experience similiar to this. Driving on a straight road, going the speed limit, when I went to change lanes, the back end came right out. I fish tailed and eventually regained control. But I didn't accelerate, it was a gradual lane change, BUT it was raining super hard. The reason for this: TIRES. I just wished there were less smart@ss replies and more helpful members.
Andee - You need to take the advice of the members on this board. You're driving a relatively powerful rear wheel drive sports car. You need to learn to respect the car, and no its capabilities and boundaries. But I would say the BIGGEST thing you need to do, is to buy NEW tires. Do not replace them with the same potenzas!!!!!! I cannot stress this enough. I would highly suggest BFGoodrich KDWII's. I've had them on my car for more than half a year, and they have changed the car completely. I have complete confidence in the rain, and on dry pavement. In pouring down rain, if you turn the wheel, the car goes where you put it. With the stock tires, I hated driving in the rain. I can't express just how much I dispised driving in the rain on the stock tires. Get some new rubber and save yourself a few headaches.

anyway, it's no big deal really. this is a pretty cool place Andee. you've just gotta take some stuff in stride and you'll enjoy it here. you seem to be doing well so far with your pot-shots back at them : )
Thanks to the guys who are being gentleman and answering me seriously because I really don't think it's a stupid question. I think it's a combination of the wet road the tires and the RWD. To say I'm an inexperienced driver is rediculous without knowing me and what I've driven. I.E. I drove a brand new 300zx and I don't remember it being the same as this as far as traction control. This rear wheel stuff is new w/ the 350? I'm gonna research it. The tires I have are not stock. The guy that owned it before me put Federal"s on the front and the back tires are "mastercraft" something and I never heard of either one. I used to put Dunlop's on my Celica, Which I liked. What are like the best? How about Pirelli's??

no, it's really not, based on your original question. Seriously.

i put mastercraft on my Avenger in college...because they only cost me like 40 bucks each...installed. Point being...crap tires. If you are driving it through the winter...i'd recommend getting some Dunlop Winter Sport M3s for it. I've heard nothing but great things about those tires in snow!
Good luck!

As for the RWD, The Z has a lot of torque on tap almost Instantly. If you punch the gas or shift down at the wrong point, you WILL loose traction, even on Dry ground. From a dead stop I could do a 720 degree spin on dry road in an Automatic. That is just the nature of the car. A lot of this also has to do with the suspension set up of the Z. It is pretty much a track car out of the box and does not "give" as much as the previous cars you have owned. That all adds up to massive oversteer when not properly controlled.
I would suggest going to an abandond parking lot and practicing your driving.
Dude, you need to get those tires off now! And I would strongly suggest avoid driving in the rain unless you have to. It's bad enough that they are crap tires, but they didn't even take the time or money to have the SAME tires put on front and rear?!
Tires - BFG KDWII's hands down! They will probably be $700+ for a full set, but man, it will be the best money you can spend on your car.

Glad to see Andee, these boys haven't scared you away. Maybe in a few years time, it'll be your turn giving newbies helpful advice.
Even some of us that have been driving more than a couple of years, can still stand to learn something from others. What I'm trying to say is we all have to learn some time, and it's always better to ask than it end up in disaster. Respect someone who has a greater knowledge than yourself.
Go get'm girl!!
