06' or bust?
I'm looking to get an 06' Z. The other years don't really appeal to me due to the clear engine superiority in the 06 model. Currently I have a 94' FD that is seemingly dying and a 97' 240SXLE, but I need something with some power.
I have also been really thinking about getting a used M3 for around 35-40k, but after hearing about the kind of maintenance pricing I might have to pay for, I am really leaning toward the 350z (or RX-8, Evo, STi, but they lack the class and prestige).
I had a few questions about the car and specific trims...
Do the higher models have features that the lower models have? (ie. Does the GT model have LSD like the Enthusiast?)
How can you tell which trim a specific model is in person? (I plan on shopping for one even at non-Nissan dealerships.)
Don't you pre-06' owners feel shafted, even just a little bit?

I was under the impression that the 06 model had more power (13 more?). And yes I have been to the Nissan page countless times and have built my own Z plenty of times but I didn't find any note that a Z of a higher model includes the features in the trims below it.

Complete specifications for each year and each model can be found here: http://www.nissanhelp.com/.
The older models if I remember correctly had more torque as well...and if you get an auto you will get the 287hp model no matter what. I dont know...when I went looking for Z's I saw the tq to hp difference and although the 06 can rev higher and have more hp, the older models had more torque and to me its always seemed harder to make tq then hp so i would have rather started with more tq anyway.

As a revup owner I'll say...
When looking at horsepower/torque numbers, remember that the only thing that is in the brochures and what most people talk about is the PEAK number. A higher peak number just means something on paper, not necessarily in the real world. The 287hp motors have a much flatter power curve than the revups. I think a good comparison would be to calculate the average hp/tq above say 2000 RPM to redline and then again for the last 2000 RPM. Of course to do that right would need two cars on the same dyno on the same day, but from what I've seen, I would guess they'd be pretty even.

I wouldnt say the 06 has a better engine, if u look in the drag racing section and look at the top 5 runners on the 100% bone stock, all of em have the non rev-up engine.
