Default first time ~Z~ owner!

Hi all, I just got my hands on an 06' Enthusiast with only 3,500 miles. I had a specific color in mind (silverstone) which I got, and I really wanted an 06' or 07' for the wheel styling (much better than any other year IMHO), but had not banked on finding one with such low mileage. I'm totally pumped... this thing is so hard to drive slow! I love it!

Anyway, from reading the forums I've come to the conclusion that the oil pressure gauge is supposed to fluctuate during acceleration and at idol should be around the 1/4 mark, but at first I was concerned that the gauge was moving so much. With that in mind, after the 300 mile drive home from picking up the car, I decided to check under the hood. There was oil all over the engine... none had touched the top of the hood (strangely enough), but there was a significant amount that had coated most of the components under the hood. I'm thinking the dealer had just over filled it with oil before giving me the car, and it had blown off excess oil during the drive home. Am I on the right track here, or could there be bigger problems? It's not burning any oil, so I guess that's good. Any ideas?

keep an eye on the oil level. Some people have reported oil consumption problems with the 06 engines using oil. Apparently they won't smoke but they go through in some cases a quart(or more) every 1k miles.

Perhaps the dealer filled it high so you wouldn't notice it was low till you had driven it for a long time.

Just keep an eye on it and congrats on your new purchase .. see the oil consumption thread in the engine tech area

Welcome to the forum and congratZ on the 06. Is it an ex-demo given it has only covered such low mileage? Hope all is okay with the oil.

Welcome. I'd take it back to the dealer and have them give an explanation, an apology and hopefully they will willingly clean up the mess. That is very low milage for that car. Congratulations.
