From a VW to a Z
Hey Guys, Just picked up my 07 z a couple weeks ago. Silvery alloy base 6speed. I traded in my 2003 VW gti 1.8t. My GTI was modded and I have to say I miss the torque spike when i hit 22lbs. Other than that I love the Z and can not stop finding excuses to take it for a spin! The power delivery is so smooth it is really deceptionally fast. I will post some pics later. Anyways I occasionally like to go to the track and I am a pretty good driver. I managed a 13.9 @ 102.3 in my GTI. What can I expect from this thing stock?

Just finished the break in period and let me tell you this thing rips on the highway!!

congrats. You should do at least mid 13's if not lower, which definitely is faster than your GTi, and that's stock. Imagine with some bolt-ons and some good tires.

The GTI was a fun little car but the potential was really limited due to its FWD. (spinning through first and second gears)
It was also an expensive car to mod, you know how german engineered cars are always expensive to work on. 5k for a turbo kit yielding 300whp plus support mods that could easily add up to 10k including labor. If you wanted over 300whp reliable you would need new rods and to build the engine. $$$
Transmission was starting to go and electrical system was acting funny while not under warranty......i wasnt going to sit and wait for a couple grand hit
The 07 base z i got was cheaper than the new gti i was looking at for 29k, oh yea with only 200hp too. 306HP RWD sportscar for less was an easy decision for me. Insurance wasnt that bad of a hit either and im only 22.
I dont commute that far so gas mileage isnt an issue for me...
