Default Expressed Interest In The 350 Community

Hey everyone! Currently I am an owner or a 2005 WRX STI. I've been thinking about the Z for a while. Can anyone sell me on why I should trade my STI for a Z. Any thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Possible Future Z Owner,

350ZRUSH

Really each to there own the STi has its advantages awd, turbo, 0-60 speed, back seats, trunk, Subaru reliabilty, sporty and loads of 3rd party modes. I can't see any reason to trade. If you like the STi.

But if you want a 2 seat icon, a sexy sport car, sleek with smooth lines with tradition and back ground. A reasonable priced SC, the 350Z is a no pretense Sports Car and a fine car to own. In saying that it has all the weakness of a Sport Car. Only two seats, its not as practical as the STi. It doesn't handle as well in bad weather and not as fast through the quater. I personally can't see any reason to Trade a STi for a 350Z, but to add a Z to what you own would be the thing to do.

In given the ST i its due I don't like its looks, its too ricey and street racy when full dressed, other then that the STi is a boss ride.

My 2 cent.

I own an infiniti and a Jeep 4x4 so weakness of the 350Z doesn't affect me, I can enjoy all its strengths.

My brother has an 04 STI and we have driven each other's cars on track many times. The STI powers out of corners better, is faster in the rain, has better brakes than my base 05 and has syncros that are amazing. (It feels like I can have any gear, at any rpm, any time.)

Other than that, all other aspects of on-road driving are better in the Z. Corner entry speed, turn in, controlled rotation, latteral grip, transitions etc. are more fun, and faster, in the Z.

Once rolling, the power difference between the two isn't noticable on course. (but I don't think any RWD car can launch like the STI)

I was suprised at how well the STI "fits" the driver, considering the high seating position, but it can't match the Z's fit. The wheel, pedals, and shifter are exactly where my hands and feet are naturaly. No matter how much I adjust things in my brother's STI, it never "fits" as well as my Z.

BTW, We have been competeing against each other in our own "sibling class" all year at the autocross track. There are usualy less than three-tenths of a second between us and we trade victory from month to month....But I won overall, this year.

I really like my STi, but it's all preference..I think the STi is better street race/drag race type car.. Especially with a large turbo upgrade.. The Z is better suited for cruising and having a way nicer interior.. Personally, I think it's hard to get in and out of the Z.. That's my only complaint. My dude just picked up a roadster and it's pretty cool.. I didn't think a convertible would be that fun, but it really is fun to drive..

Z1inonly I like your side by side comparison of the two stock vehicles, I found that quite interesting. In that most outside of Z-dome, think the Z-car is just a Grand Touring vehicle and not really a sports car. But the guys that Auto-X, run Track seem to be able to do quite well. The STi and EVo are supposeitly a street worthy rally cars, for the 350Z to compare with these street racing $30k icons on the track is impressive.

I've notice on the Youtube video that the TT 350Z quarter mile runs or races are faster then the built STi or stock C5 Vette. That being said SuperCharge or TT the V8 and it will smash the V6.
On another note I've even heard that stock past 80-100mph the Z cars faster then the TC STi or Evo. Who gots proof of this?

As in 500hpSTi statement its all about perference, what you like in looks and style of the vehicle. Of course there is no argument that the STi bc of its awd capabilities is a practical all season vehicle, its a rally car built to run through 4" of mud and standing water. But this is not a knock against the 350Z, this is regrad to any rear wheel drive sport car, but I'd still perferr a Vette or a Porsche or a 350Z if I wanted a SC.

I shudder to think of a 350Z all muddy on purpose just for fun, bc that's what my 4x4 for, mud is its badge of honor.

i think all the major points have been covered.

my .02, i bought the 350z specifically because it was rwd, and 2 door. I wanted the cornering characteristics and feel of that type of setup. I even seriously considered the gto.

even today i saw an sti and couldnt help but stare at it, but i am extreamly happy with my purchase, even with the faults i have found in the 350z after purchase. Good luck with your decision. If speed and handling are your major criteria then I dont think you should change.

Welcome. We've had quite a few Sub v Z threads of late. Personally to my mind, they are both quite different types of cars. Have a good think about what you want out of a car, take a few of both for a test drive, then decide. Can you cope with a 2 seater? Is probably one of the main questions. Are you thinking about mods??

I can cope having a 2 seater and understand the differences between the two. I was actually thinking about Z has my daily driver, since my STI is already moded up. . .I love the way the Z looks. . .

Street race? Drag race? The Z was not meant to be a drag racer. Leave that to the domestic muscle cars. The Z performs well in autocross, and is awesome on a road course.

Z=chic magnet 'Nuff said

I haven't posted on here in a while. I had an 03 350Z and traded it for my current 07 STi. I had been drooling over the STi for a while and did my research. I am 33 years old. One of the first things I did was had a second trunk made up with the limited spoiler so I can swap from low key to "ricer" in about 15 minutes. My Z was stock 6 Spd. My STi is stage 2 protuned so I probably have another 50 hp/Tq over stock. The car is fast and handles well in any weather. I'm on dedicated snow tires fro winter. I have already put on close to 20K miles on the car. It is VERY practical except gas mileage is worse than the Z.

With that said. I miss my Z!! I miss the leather seats and the low "sports car" seating, the VQ exhaust note(even though the subbie boxer rumble is pretty sweet) I miss the smooth power delivery of an NA car. I miss the looks of the Z and it's lack of Body roll in corners.

They are both great cars.

I think what I find amazing is not only is the SUBARU STi comparing with the 350Z it's also making a roar on the BMW forums, in comparison with the new 1 series. Now we are talking about a SUBARU some years back only 40-50 years olds drove and talked about these vehicles and only in Colorado, Montana or Wyoming.

Now the STi is being compared to all the fad cars with Stock track numbers that can compare with most Hot vehicles like the Vette or Boxster S and even a 350Z if you just looking at performance numbers. But when Panance, style, smooth line, classic looks, graceful curves, interior amenities are taken in consideration it still a Subaru.

Just a bad a$$ Stock factory Subaru, I just couldn't see myself getting into a maxed out STi with breifcase, suit/tie and Fob blinking the lights on a ricey STi, maybe a Legacy, but a Ricey STi, no way maybe if I was 21 again.

It seems you need to be in a jumpsuit, matching helment and gloves heading toward a muddy mess STi!!!
