Default Bye-bye 4G63 forever...

Hey all. After owning 3 dsm's, a project eg civic (that never quite got started) and nearly buying 3 different evo's....I think I have finally bought the first car that I do not want to tear apart. '03 Sunset Lemans 6mt Touring edition with low miles for a steal of a price. The bug bit me a little bit so three days after the sale I installed a Pioneer AVIC-D3 and K&N Drop-In. With the exception of some component speakers and a small amp, that should be all for a while, until I get completely used to the charactoristics of the car. Look forward to talkin you guys/girls in the future...here's a couple:

As long as the Z doesn't respond to mods the way a dsm does(you know the "did i just pull the pin on this grenade?" feeling that only a dsm owner can appreciate) I'll be a happy man. Amazing to me that bone stock this car would easily manhandle my most recent dsm (99gst) on a road course (Tein Superstreet coilovers, poly bushings and motor mounts, 555r's, and aftermarket sway and strut tower bars). Like I said this is probably the first car I've ever owned that doesn't leaving me wanting much more out of it. Although I'd be a liar if i said I wouldn't like a little more power, but that's going to be a ways down the road....i think

Yes. 6 bolt swap, comp cams(272's w/o the price tag), FP Green, Greddy FMIC, 780cc's, all the proper supporting mods led to 392/351 at 23psi with a decent amount of timing. Best time ever was 12.2@119 (traction would of been nice). Car was a monster on the highway, and even more of a monster on my wallet. 30% of the time, it was fast everytime A spun rod at track was its final demise. Instead of continuing to throw thousands into a car that was was not only suicidal, but quickly depreciating in value, I parted it out and returned it to stock. Two months later, I'm the proud owner of my Z

Nice mods. FP green would of been fun on the highway. I'm surprised you even ran a 12.2 with a gst.

I had a FP 20g ported & clipped with more mods a buddie of mine had a red. Sold my 20g for a full race 35r. The new owner has really let it go to SHIIt.

If you know any guys looking for parts I still have a grip of never installed parts just sitting around.

Oh trust me, after a few months you'll want to tear it apart and place some snails under the hood

Thanks for the welcome fellas. Yes I know the mod clock is ticking, lol. I am however a firm believer that the best mod for any car is the driver him/herself. I plan on getting a bit of seat time to familiarize myself with it, once I feel that I am pushing the car to it's full capabilities in stock form, I'll start planning which route I want to go with it. I think I've finally outgrown my desire to be the fastest car in town. In the past few years I've spent a small fortune on 3 different turbo set-ups, 2 sets of cams, two motors, a trans, and countless hours of tuning on my dsm. I ended up with a problematic car that was more of a hassle to drive than a pleasure everyday.

Silverstone-Z: You're probably right, after doing some research and seeing the safe power outputs from these off the shelf kits. I might find myself going forced induction down the road. I know I'm quite a ways away from that right now, and have a lot of research (and saving) to do in the meantime.

Z33allme: You're FP 20g ported and clipped should of been damn near identical to my Green. By far the best pump-friendly turbo I have ever ran (granted I bought this before the GT35R's and such were so common). I tuned a customer's car with a 272/272/Red set-up, granted this thing made gobs of power up top, I felt it wasn't too friendly on the street mixed with his cam profile. I too still have a stock-pile of parts left-over, I did however make a killing on ebay letting some of my stuff go. I'm well known on the dsmtuners forums, if you need some help getting rid of some of your parts, shoot me a PM with what you're looking to get rid of, I'd be happy to help you find a couple potential buyers.

Superblack: Thanks man, the green with the comps was my final and best set-up I ran on my gst. Amazingly enough, that 12.2@119 was my very first pass on that set-up, and I couldn't do better than a 12.37 from then on out. While the car probably had the power to push faster times, getting the suspension dialed in just right on a somewhat powerful fwd dsm is a huge task on its own. The poor weight transfer charactoristics of the car were killing my 60' and I never got around to playing with custom spring rates. Ultimately I convinced myself that it was a beast on the highway, and I was happy enough with that.

Though I have a G coupe, I have the same want for more power. My DSM with a 42R has me a tad spoiled in the power department.

I'm not willing to give up my 4G63 just yet, but the VQ is growing on me.

I bet you'll pick up another 1G some day, it seems to always happen to DSMers.

That's an awesome color by the way, good choice!

Funny you mention that Blinker, there's a gvr4 for sale locally, that I "thought" about. I passed, but you're probably right..
