Talking New to the Z...

Greetings everyone,

I'm a native to Kansas City part itme and Northern Cali

I recently sold my moded to hell Tiburon and bought a 05 350z. I came over from newtiburon.com being told that now that I have a Z, this was the place to be.

So now its time to start playing. I want to start things off with a clutch and flywheel. Let me ask first though, I notice in my car, when its cold, 2nd isnt real easy to slide in to like the other gears, as it heats up, it becomes less difficult to slide in to. Any ideas as to why this is? The syncros aren't shot are they?

The stock flywheel is around 22 pounds from what I read. The prolite flywheel is 13 pounds. By dropping 9 pounds, does that make a big difference in comfort...as in starts etc with less inertia to help? I guess I am asking if there is any big downsides to the Z for swapping this in?

As for the clutch, since I intend to F/I, I was thinking of the ACT street clutch since it holds to 455 ft.lbs

Anyone who is running this combo able to let me know the feel.

Thanks for the advice/help in advance!

Congrats on the new Z and yes, This is the place to be To answer your first question: Yes it's normal for it to be rough when it's cold (I had the same problem in my WRX) and again in this. No worries. These are strong tranny's.
As for your 2nd: Any loss of weight in rotational mass is good. As for negative gains I'll wait for someone with that setup to chime in... If you're planning on going FI I would checkout the FI section to answer any questions cuz the Z is a whole different ballpark... Also check out the top 100 questions... and last but not least the search button is your best friend on here!!!!It's going to save you from putting your flame suit on.. Other than that cheers and make sure you give the forums a good name

Welcome. You'll be in good company around here, many ex-Tib owners.

The modding bug has got you. Heaven help your first wife. You'll be rearranging her on the wedding night...or you did. Congrats on the car.

__I'm assuming your are a guy, although that's a bit closed minded of me.

'04 Touring Coupe, 13+k, when bought, 2/8/'08; $22,000--definitely NOT bad,
down @ Puerto Rico; things much more expensive down here! No feathering
issues; yes, driver's side power w. glitch, and gas latch release problem. NO
PROBLEMO with cooling system, engine, electrical, suspension (Potenzas too
hard--jittery ride, but it's a Sports car! Will probly get Dunlops, next time.);
Stares are constant, sometimes they even ask me how much I paid for the
beast! Down here Zeds are SCARCE, due to prices. Catch you later.
Old-timer from Puerto Rico.
